I guess the decisions will start rolling out in the next 2-3 days then. I’m guessing you never got an e-mail?

Congrats b8jnes! East, I hope you’re next =). Also Maclen, since that’s way overdue.

Found the Vet Association’s bulletin for prereqs for Grad school. Apparently for Cornell grad, a 4+ on AP physics and chem replaces a year’s worth of college coursework with labs for each. Guess that means I DON’T have to start from scratch (YAYYY), which feels soooo much better and less stressful. Still going to call in tomorrow or something and ask if that’s true, though. Will be asking Jerry Rivers (I think that’s what he said his name was), because he scares me less. I have a weak spot for people in positions of authority =(.

YAY! That means fall or at least spring transfer is a potential!..or at least grad school lol.

Then you would just have to do biology, which is nothing. At least you have a career in mind, I still have no clue how I’m going to get to genetics as a communications major.

-____- But I guess I might warm up to other ideas once I’ve taken COM classes, ha.

congrats bj8nes!!! finally some more good news on this thread! :)

i just got my netid! i’m excited
today started out so crappy - i slept for 2 hours last night, got soaking wet and stayed wet until i air dried, had 2 midterms (…what), had class until 7, and then i got home exhausted but yay for envelopes from cornell. my mom still likes saying “ohhhh there’s a little envelope here! you’re rejected!” -_- silly maple (her name is serap, so i call her maple serap. get it?! i’m so funny. and will have nicknames for everyone soon i’m sure hehe). gonna go stalk classes and see what’s good being on the inside of the cornell internet world hehe

water, can you explain what communication majors study to me?

Communication is a process engaged in by people, between people, and with the aim of influencing people. It happens inside of real social contexts, whether that be communities, organizations, teams, or cultures. It happens with the aid of technologies that are themselves a product of the social world. For us, this means the study of communication draws its theoretical strength and methodological rigor from the social sciences.

Jobs like science magazine writers, music producers/writers, public relations officers, as well as communication/HR positions at tons of different science, business, and education facilities across the country accept COM majors. In fact, a com major with the appropriate coursework/minors make excellent positions for a wide variety of jobs. Tons of com majors go pre-med, pre-law, etc.

We study different topics of communications, from sociology to media influence to global relations. It’s a very broad major, that can be applied to a lot of places, but it’s focused at the same time so it’s hardly a liberal arts kind of major.

Maple Serap, haha, that’s cute =P.
Anyway Ryan, you’re already in an awesome school. If you reaaaally want to make the switch, I’m sure it’ll be no problem for you.

Actually, it’s not all that useful, but useful enough. If anything I can place out of gen chem 1–I have a 5 on the ap exam, I took an intro course at Brown (no labs, but still)…so I’ll prob do Physics and Bio 1, Chem 2, Stats, and a writing course. Then in the summer I’ll play catch up with Bio and physics, which might be frowned upon, but hey…if I need to take them over, fine, I will. I won’t place out of physics and chem completely because I haaated physics in high school (got a 4 on ap physics c exam by some miracle), and if I go straight into orgo, I’ll just die.

okaaay back to studying for psych final

ryan how did u get that room?!

I called Sandy Davenport and said I had requested to be switched from the Schuyler single to a gothic double via email, but no one answered me.

So she silently looked something up and said ‘I have a double in Becker’ and I was just like ‘um, that would work!’ so she said okay, if you log in you’ll find it’s changed. and I just thanked her. Kind of awkward, since clearly they don’t like doing that, but yeah.

Just call housing and see if you can speak with her about a swap. You miiiight not be able to, because she first told me they didn’t do any switching until everyone got to campus and they saw what had vacancies. When I said I had a single in Schuyler, she was like ‘hold on…’

oh… i called yesterday and nobody answered. When did you call her? What’s her number again?

Agh, I typed it on Notepad, then closed notepad when I was done with her. You can ask the main housing office to connect with her. Just keep trying housing, they don’t answer when theyre busy.

secede. yup, that was the word I was looking for. east, you are so smart. thanks for the vocab help. If we both get in, I will be coming to you a lot for such help :)

thanks for the answer, water. that’s pretty cool. if i have any free classes, i’ll see if i can maybe put one in there. then again, i want to take almost every class at cornell hehe. i’m seriously so jealous of your vocab, east. ILR would be crazy not to take you.
and thanks for appreciating my nickname wini lol
acc, call housing tomorrow because you have to sign your contract tomorrow and you don’t want to be left without housing!
ps i finally got to join the cornell network on facebook! i never bothered joining stony’s cause i knew i’d be leaving anyway. yay cornell <3 <3

Also, for everyone who has joined (or will be joining) the Facebook group, click on ‘Discussions’ in it to find a get-to-know-you survey to fill out as well as a thread for cell #s (should you wish to post yours; if you don’t, just add our #s and text us telling us it’s you and we’ll add ya!)

Just a little preemptive strike. The guy from the transfer committee said our orientation is shorter than fall’s, but still great and we should be moved in well before current students, plenty of time to explore campus and get to know each other before the craziness begins (I hope!)

Make sure you guys do transition over to that group, because by January I’m going to guess this thread will be almost dried out and we’ll be asking/answering all questions over there. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop visiting CC ;]

Here’s a topic for you guys. What clubs/possibly intramural sports are you guys considering? I might do fencing as a gym class, but probably not until next fall when we have more money to use. In the mean time, I might rush (provided I don’t have to pay dues this semester as a pledge, otherwise I’m screwed), I want to run for something for my dorm and scwhat not if they have that kind of thing, join the Student Transfer Committee to help with orientating transfers and maybe persuading housing to allot a couple floors on west campus for strictly transfers (instead of placing them all the way out in crazytown, Schuyler House!)

I also might write for the Daily Sun, that intrigues me.

Basically, I’m in a Cornell frenzy and do not wish to do any of my current classes work, lol.

i want to do EARS, write for the daily sun as well as the new blog, i want to be an ambassador for humec, and there’s a lot of other clubs that i’m considering but those are my definites for now. i really want to take more diving classes since cornell has literally all of them. i may get a job of some sort, we’ll see. and i’m considering rushing, but honestly, i’d rather just go to parties on my own and have my friends seperate.

our orientation is shorter, but there’s a lot less of us, and plus that gives us more time to hang out together
when do we get our move-in paperwork and times and days and stuff? also, when are payments due?

My mom was freaking out because she said the first bill was supposed to arrive at everyone’s house on the 11th, but somehow I don’t see that happening. Probably closer to Christmas will we be billed, and right before that (today/tomorrow/Monday?) we’ll get our financial aid.

The thing is, for anyone not accepted, they probably won’t bother with a financial statement. So for the kids who’s decisions are still being processed, they’ll probably have to wait even longer for an aid letter.

I have no idea when we get our move-in stuff, but I hope we get that before Christmas too! My family and I decided we’re going out on the 22nd I believe to visit, hopefully meet with some people (should they be in the office).

Thanks MDG and Ironic. Honestly, not to be too modest, but I don’t really think my vocab is really that spectacular. I’m trying to increase it now through reading more non-fiction books (great source of heavy verbiage to increase your personal lexicon with), so there’s always room for improvement.

my bursar thing at studentcenter has my tuition saying that it’s going to be due soon, and i expect that housing and dining will be added to that soonish… but my mom wants to know so she can see if my dad will help her pay for it at all cause he’s a shadester about everything.

gah! water! i’ll be there the 17 - 18! come then
lol
east, good idea. maybe during break i’ll pick up a few books and see if i can do something. i don’t think my vocab is bad; yours is just amazing lol

Those of you who applied to ILR can now call the office to receive your decision. They just ask some basic bio info about you, such as address, e-mail address and phone number to verify your identity. I didn’t get in, but its not really a big deal. Honestly, I don’t think I would have cared too much if I did get in since I had to wait so long for a decision.

Omg, east!! I’m so sorry
Emory will for sure accept you =) and hey maybe we will see each other after all. Big hug!!! Your amazing, I’m sure you will do great in either school you eventually go to.

AHHH east i can’t believe it!!! did they tell you why??? i thought you would have FOR SURE gotten in :(
