Who's applying for Spring transfer 10'-Cornell?

^ i should talk about the fit in my supplement right? because ill be applying to another school using commonapp as well …

why does the cornell commonapp say 2 teacher recommendations? do you think it’s a bit weird if i go to office hours a lot this year and ask one of my teachers from THIS year to write a recommendation for me? i will only have known this teacher for a month or so … =x or is it safer to go with a teacher who i didnt know that well but is from last year?

otherwise, thanks :)

Hm, getting a letter from someone you’ve only one month known seems risky to me, especially since they won’t even be able to comment very much on your performance in their class.

Personally I’d see if you could try to get back in touch with the teacher of a class you really enjoyed and did great in. If they didn’t know you all that well, I’d recommend writing all your essays first (essentially doing your whole application besides the letters) and then giving it all to them so they can read over it if they want to in order to get a feel for what to write in the letter.

I know a few professors who actually require letter requesters to supply all application materials including essays. The vast majority don’t require this, of course, but it seems like it could only help.

Does anybody know when this years transfer day takes place? For those that went last year can you share your experience? Did you guys stay overnight at Cornell or did u stay in a hotel nearby?

thanks zsquared, that is true … i guess i’ll do that.

the thing is, im at a fairly large public school, rutgers university in new brunswick. and freshmen usually only have large classes … and the only class i had that was high school sized was my writing class. but that’s the only class i got a B in … and i wasn’t exceptional in that class. should i ask that professor or should i go ask a TA (whom i had recitations with) and got an A in the class?

It’s fine to ask a TA, especially if you can get the prof’s signature. TAs are USUALLY great about writing recs, since they feel all important. Admissions realizes how many large classes there are, and thus should be ok with TA recs,

Call ahead to make sure.

transfer day was AWESOME! i went up with my boyfriend and my mom and we stayed in a hotel for a night. transfer day was early but they served a great buffet of breakfast food. the presentation was very long, but very very informative, as i wasn’t initially going to apply to ILR. and all of the adcoms are there, i actually sat next to the head of the admissions lol (we had a nice chat, i made her laugh a bunch).

but yeah, most of the time, you set up an interview after the presentation, because ILR requires an interview ( i dunno about the other schools’ transfer days) and after the presentation, they offer tours of the campus. i dunno where those go, cause my boy and i just walked around the campus and stuff before my interview.

it was a good day for sure, if you can go, do it…its a great way to show dedication to your school and meet the adcoms and make a lasting impression

when is transfer day this year? i can’t find it online; i keep getting directed back to fall 2008’s page.

they probably havent set up a date yet, as the semester hasnt even started yet haha

true lol, but i’ve planned out my visits to see the boy already and i want to know if this gives me another reason to sneak up there haha.

“your highschool gpa made me laugh a little, in a good way. glad to see im not the only loser that bombed highschool only to do really well in college :P”

Lol I know right! haha We’re a different breed of person. For some reason we couldn’t get motivated in High School, but the idea that Community College was our ‘last chance’ at getting into a top end school ended up being the motivation for alot of hard work at CC.

I’ve just got word that Transfer Day this year might be over the course of 3 days versus 1. They said this would allow more time for transfers to interact with each other. Also, they will be offering a free meal card that can be used anywhere on campus. The official date will be set in a few weeks.

true that man :] CC for the win!

and for real about transfer day? i kinda really want to go now! hah

Sounds kick-a*s. I’ll be there.

uh that sounds amazing. i will also definitely be there, unless i have a major exam or something. hey brandnew, i’ll take you up with me if you’re serious about going. i don’t like driving alone lol

just wondering…
when you guys say “CC” what do ya mean?

1) college confidential
2) community college
3) current college
4) something completely different ? lol

the first and second. you can tell by the context which one someone means.

i usuallly mean the second and dude, ironically that sounds like a good idea!! i’d totally be down for that!! hit me up on face book!

is anyone applying to the hotel school?

i am :)

WOW HOLY MACKEREL

I just noticed that application filing periods are from september to october…

i couldve sworn it was october to november. holyyyyyy moley.

how the heck are we supposed to even have a midterm grade by then? >_>

Well, yeah… the deadline is Nov. 1. You should have the midterm grades by THEN.
