I’ve actually used my iPhone while working out to watch old movies I downloaded onto it when the TV in the workout room was on the blink. I set the iPhone on the console of the elliptical and it’s fine watching something on it. I’ve watched movies on it while flying as well.

For those who don’t know but might be interested - you can download for free some old public domain feature movies (mostly from the 40s/50s) in mp4 format and load and then play them on the iPhone. The place to download them from is www . archive . org

You might want to also check Monoprice.com for various cabling needs. They’re pretty darned cheap. Generally, since shipping winds up being the bulk of my order, I’ll buy an extra 2-3 copies of any cable that’s fairly universal. Did that with my old iPod’s USB cable and now I have one for home, one for work, and one leftover in case one breaks for less than half the price of a single one from a store.

I normally keep one at home on my desk, one in the office at my desk and one in my backpack (I have 30-pin, mini-usb, micro-usb and my GPS Watch charging cable, MacBook Pro power adapter in my backpack). Have electronics, will travel.

Walmart.com is good for ordering cables online cheap and they’ll ship for free most ordered items to your local Wal-Mart store for you to pickup at the store.

Got my email that my order was shipped. It has been sitting in Louisville for two days and had the “Import Scan” done this morning. I assume that that has something to do with Customs. It’s scheduled to arrive tomorrow morning. I may not turn it on for a few days as I’m sure that there’s stuff that I have to do and there will probably be a crush of activations.

I think you just turn it on. I am going to take H’s sim card out of the new phone and put mine in it. I hope it’ll just work. D1 is asking H to get it to her work place before EOD so she could have it for the weekend. Not sure if H would do the same for me. :)

I downloaded iOS 6 yesterday on my new iPad, my iphone4 & our iPod touch 4. It seems very speedy especially on the iPad, and the graphics appear improved. Siri( only on the iPad), is not all I expected. I had to change the setting to English UK to get it to understand me better ( raised in Seattle), but still makes some odd replies.

I’m going to pick up some of the new earbuds when I get a chance, but I think they should do an exchange.;)

My understanding is that they are using a new form-factor for the SIM cards and my phone is pretty old so I’m guessing that my SIM card won’t fit into the device. I think that you already have iPhones so perhaps you can do this.

I opted for a new phone number which is going to be somewhat of a pain in the neck. I have given out my Google Voice number to most so it will only be a nuisance for the people that I gave my current phone number (the actual number) to. I am going to give my old phone number and phone to my wife (her phone expired recently) so she’ll get the calls from people trying to reach me and she can give them my Google Voice number.

I installed iOS 6 on my iPod Touch. It has some improvements and performance is about the same as on the previous version. I have an iPad 2 to upgrade too.

One thing that I would like is voice transcription - Google has this on their keyboard. I wrote a post on College Confidential this morning using voice transcription on my Nexus 7 and it works quite well. Does Siri do this on iPhones? I find it a lot more convenient than using the virtual keyboard.

Any glitches with the iOS6 upgrade BCEagle? My daughter was asking me yesterday if she should go ahead and do the upgrade. I told her to hold off for a couple of weeks and see if any glitches occur and Apple resolves the bugs quickly.

I have not had any problems but I use an iPod Touch and a lot of the stuff that changed doesn’t apply to the iPod Touch.

There have been negative reviews on the new mapping application. I do mapping on a Garmin Nuvi so that really doesn’t affect me. The complaints are generally due to some loss of functionality - particularly using the subway. I found an app called HopStop to do trip planning using public transportation, though usually I do just fine reading signs at the station.

Pls. give us an update after you upgrade your iPad. Siri is not very good. I use her to transcribe a couple of sentences not an entire paragraph when I’m texting someone. I tried texting a long paragraph and they were a lot of mistakes.

I just did the update on my 4s and have played around with the dictation in email. It is pretty accurate, whereas when I’ve used Siri previously to try to send a text, who the heck knows what she’s going to spit out. I don’t know if it’s the update, or a different system, but it’s def better.

I’m also loving the do not disturb feature! I’ve always had to leave my phone on all night in fear that my college age son might need to reach me. The darn thing lights up and makes noises all night driving DH nuts. With the DND feature you can set certain hours and allow calls from your ‘favorites’ list to go through, or even set it to send through any number that calls twice w/i 3 minutes.

I found an App called Dragon Dictation which I will try out. It’s a separate app - not in-keyboard so it is not as convenient as what is in Android. I’ll see if Siri is a better approach when I have the iPhone 5 up and running. For now, I guess that I’ll just use the Nexus 7 when I want to do dictation.

I upgraded my iPad last night with no problems. It took 30 minutes or so. I can’t upgrade my iPhone 4 because I don’t have enough free space. I’m going to wipe it and give it to Wildchild when my new 5 arrives.

This is going to be awesome for me, too. H also is disturbed by all the dinging and clinging of my Twitter and text message alerts during the night.

BCE- you lucky dog. I haven’t gotten a ship notice on mine yet.

Blue, congrats on a glitch-free upgrade and the DND feature sounds cool. How do you feel about Apple’s new mapping app now that the Google map app is gone? Do you miss the Youtube app?

MOWC - I hear you…and S2’s text alert is that obnoxious Sherwood Forest that really does wake the dead. He just doesn’t get that I’m not awake and ready to chat at 2:30am when he is. lol

Krlilies - I never used youtube much, but I just downloaded the You Tube app directly from the app store. I don’t think there’s supposed to be any difference. I haven’t really played with the new mapping yet except to see that it accurately pinged the back of my house where I was sitting. I use a gps in the car, but the previous google maps have helped me out of a jam on more then one occasion. I’m hoping this version will work just as well.

Siri is able to do this, [but only on iphone4s & iphone5. :(](<a href=“Law Firm Systems”>Law Firm Systems) I have difficulty with voice recognition software, for example when we still had a landline, and I would call the phone company, their software didn’t have an option to key in your info OR get a real person by hitting “O”.
The little voice would just say " sorry, you’re having trouble" and disconnect me.
