Haha! ATT big event and Apple store via the computer never cleared. Clicked on iPad and the process via the Apple store took less than 1 minute to get an email that the order was being processed. Now, let’s see if the confirmation and delivery goes smoothly!

I got 2, but only when I used Safari. When I tried to use Chrome, I couldn’t get to the store.

I had Firefox and Chrome browsers open on my desktop and the Apple iPhone page just had the We’ll Be Back message on Firefox. It still does. This was at 3:01 so after a minute, I went to the Apple Store on Chrome and the iPhone page came right up.

I tried to pick the AT&T plan and it asked me a bunch of questions and I guess I didn’t pass some test because it said that I would need to make a deposit with AT&T and that I would need to do this at the local store. So I tried again. This time I got through the initial question page.

And then it asked me a bunch of other questions with multiple choice answers:

Where do you work (put up a list of five similar companies)

When were you hired (it provided options in six month increments around the time that I was hired and we’re talking nearly two decades ago)

What is the market value of your home (to the nearest $100K)

When was your home built - I had to guess on this one - I had seen the date on a purchase or mortgage document back in the 1980s

So I got by there (this information is probably available from credit reports, real estate reports and town records), and then it asked me about shipping. I normally have stuff shipped to my office but it didn’t allow that option. It did give me the option to pick it up at the local store and I would have preferred that but I couldn’t figure out how to get back to the shipping option so I just had it shipped to my home. I guess I’ll work from home in the morning. If it arrives later on, someone will have to take it.

Then I had to log into my Apple account for payment.

This wasn’t a quick process but their server response times weren’t bad. I’d say about 5-20 seconds between web pages.

It appears that they sold out after an hour.

? I just ordered one a few minutes ago.

^^^I just tried and they are still in stock. When is the delivery date? Is it still Sep 21?

[nope.avi - YouTube](<a href=“nope.avi - YouTube”>nope.avi - YouTube)

NOPE. :)

I ordered easily from iPad at 7am Eastern. Said 2 weeks delivery and I got an email confirmation. All is good.

Took a while, but AT&T order went through at 9am ET. Was going to go Apple but their site said ship in two weeks while AT&T said arriving next Friday, 9-21. We’ll see.

I was all set to preorder. Sheesh, I’ve been waiting months for this iphone. Then I read that as a Verizon customer, I’m still going to be stuck with no simultaneous voice and data. That’s a critical feature for me so it looks like I’m going to have to go with AT&T or hold onto my Android device for now.
I’m really disappointed.

Come over to the dark side. I’ve never had a serious problem with AT&T, although your mileage may vary. I think AT&T is marginally less expensive, but the pricing comparisons require a CPA to figure it out. I am annoyed though that I would have to pay for a mobile share plan to used cellular FaceTime–not that I use it that much.

Also consider pre-paid if the iPhone 5 becomes available. For the 4s there are scenarios where if you can afford the full price for the phone, the less expensive monthly charge makes it significantly cheaper over 24 months. I think Virgin is one where this works, but they use CDMA where you can’t do the simultaneous thing, and no iPhone 5 yet.

Just found out that we have a corporate discount with AT&T too so my plan will be $60/month for 3 GB. I am considering going to 5 GB/month for $70 and cancelling the plan on my Verizon MiFi ($50/month). The net cost of the phone to me would be $20/month over what I was paying before. The AT&T 5 GB plan includes tethering.

Question for those that do tethering on AT&T - do you need the enterprise data package to do VPN?

"I tried to pick the AT&T plan and it asked me a bunch of questions and I guess I didn’t pass some test because it said that I would need to make a deposit with AT&T and that I would need to do this at the local store. So I tried again. This time I got through the initial question page.

You have got to be kidding.

This is intrusive and this information is not necessary when buying a phone plan.

What am I missing?

^^AT&T must think you’re applying for a home mortgage…not cell phone service!

I use my iphone 4 with prepaid Straight Talk service which for me happens to be the AT&T cell phone network…for $45/mo. No application, no hassles.

[Welcome To Straight Talk](http://www.straighttalk.com/)

The last time I had to answer questions like those was when I was getting free credit reports. I assume that AT&T has had fraud issues in the past. BTW, I can change the ship-to address now.

I read a few articles where ordering on the Apple site had problems because AT&T servers weren’t responding - in those cases, Apple reserved a phone for the customer and the customer could fill out the AT&T stuff later on.

I could go to the AT&T store and wait in line and save $36 on activation fees - AT&T waives the activation fees for the iPhone 5. They also have discounted accessories with our corporate plan which will be useful for getting an extra charging cable.

I may consider Straight Talk when my two years are up. I discussed it with someone in the office today - he’s going to use it for his son.

It sounds like the Cabbage Patch Doll frenzy all over again.

I got online at 8am this morning and ordered one from Verizon with no issues. Suppose to be delivered by Sept 21st (we’ll see). Though I am a little irritated that they are doing away with the unlimited data plan.

This is my first iPhone. My company recently made us put a security app on our phones and the app just doesn’t interface well on Android. I now have two different calendars and email systems. The iPhone works fine with the app, which is the reason I’m switching. Am so glad iPhone decided to up the screen size. That’s always been my biggest beef about the iPhone - screen was too small for my old eyes!

On the Mac vs Windows topic, I dual boot a laptop with Windows and Linux. The base computer, an HP, was customizable, unlike Macs. I have 2 hard drives, 1 SSD for the OS and programs, and a TB HDD for storage. 2 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0, an SD slot, HDMI, VGA, ethernet, 2 audio outputs, 1 input, 4 speakers, fingerprint sensor, and removable/upgradeable battery came standard. I’m pretty confident I could never get an Apple laptop with all that. The only hardware Apple can really brag about is the retina screens, which don’t really offer much utility above standard HD.

Also, I have yet to find a project I can’t tackle between Windows and Linux, nor have I ever had to restore a computer (Windows or Linux) because of a virus in my lifetime. There’s really not a practical reason to use an Apple computer except that it is easy and works well right out of the box. For those willing to tweak, a Windows computer seems to be the better choice.

BCE - Is AT&T waiving all activation fees for the i5, or is this something local/specific to your company discount?

My D pre-ordered an iPhone5 from Sprint at 6pm last night and received a confirmation date of 9/21.
