Who's watching the Oscars?

Last year’s thread was a lot of fun for me. And it got pretty exciting for a while there, too: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1464979-so-who-s-watching-the-oscars-tonight-p1.html</a></p>

Even though they aren’t on until tomorrow night, I found this neat infographic online and wanted to share it. It’s an artist’s rendering of all the outfits worn by all the Best Actress Oscar recipients since 1929: <a href=“AOL Style News, Trends and Advice - AOL.com”>AOL Style News, Trends and Advice - AOL.com; The missing years are from when the winner wasn’t there to accept. Fun fact: Katharine Hepburn never was present to receive her (4) Oscars. She did make a subsequent appearance to present an award, though.

What time are they on? I always miss it.

<a href=“The Oscar-Telecast Drinking Game | GQ”>Celebrity News | GQ | GQ;

They’re on ABC tomorrow night (Sunday, March 2nd). My listing says 7 PM EST, but I think that might be the lame first hour or so when people are interviewed on the red carpet. I can’t watch that stuff - it’s too embarrassing for the interviewers.

They’re apparently also going to be streamed live for the first time. I love the drinking game!

It is with great pleasure that I announce the Leonardo DiCaprio has won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role. How do I know this a day before the awards? Well, Leo is the best actor of our time and he was masterful in Wolf of Wall Street. It’s that simple.

Ugh, no. Sorry, strongly disagree. Woody Harrelson.

Oh no, Matthew wins for Dallas Buyers club =D>

Okay. just no Leo. Anyone but Leo. LOL!

I admire Matthew and Leo and really, all the guys who are up for the award. I’ll be pleased for any of them, but I won’t be surprised if Chiwetel Ejiofor wins it for “12 Years a Slave.”

I’ll never understand all the Leo dislike out there. He’s given brilliant performances in “The Aviator” and “The Departed” and many other films.

Probably true and I can’t explain it but it dates back to Titanic, maybe even sitcom TV. Glad to hear I’m not alone.

Have you seen any of his performances since “Titanic”?

Bits and pieces. It’s not a performance critique. I have no doubt he’s a fine actor. But, I still don’t care for him. My apologies.

I would love to Chiewetel Ejifor win for 12 Years which to me was the clear and away Best Picture of the Year, but I have to say that although I am not a Matthew McCauhnehey fan especially, he was truly outstanding as as Jared Leto in Dallas Buyers Club so it might very well be a sweep for those two. Bruce Dern was also really outstanding in Nebraska.

I don’t really care who wins. I watch to see the gowns, see who makes the most gracious acceptance speech, who makes the clumsiest speech, and whether any of the jokes are good. (The attempts at comedy lately have been abysmal. I’m hoping for some laughs from Ellen).

H and I try and watch all the best movies nominated. We have one left, " Her". My fb friends all comment that it is terrible. Trying to get some enthusiasm to go watch it. Playing in a movie theater tomorrow at 4. Maybe we’ll go, but I think it is going to be a pretty day, so maybe not.

Talking heads last night all agreed. Matthew wins best actor and 12 Days a Slave win best pix.

Gaining or losing a lot of weight always seems to guarantee an Oscar for some reason. So, yeah. Matthew wins. Upthread I got him confused with Woody. Oops.

^^^^^In the opening monologue of the Golden Globes, Tina Fey said “For his role in Dallas Buyers Club, [Matthew Mcconaughey] lost 45 pounds – or what actresses call ‘being in a movie’”.

Red carpet arrival will be interesting tomorrow with all the rain they’ve been getting in LA the last couple of days!

Gaining or losing a lot of weight always seems to guarantee an Oscar for some reason. So, yeah. Matthew wins. Upthread I got him confused with Woody. Oops.

In that case, Christian Bale has a good shot also. But it doesn’t always work. Tom Hanks gained a lot of weight and then lost it for “Cast Away”. And Renee Zellwegger in Bridget Jones’ Diary gained quite a bit…no nomination.

I do love the Oscars and I watch the red carpet hype to get a better look at the dresses. Access Hollywood has hired Tara Lipinsky and Johnny Weir for analysis. I wish I could watch them. They are just cute together. I hope Matthew wins, and I would really like Sandra bullock to win, though I know it is a stretch. I really thought Gravity was so good.
