Who's watching the Oscars?

My informal survey out in RealWorld (receptionist, people in waiting room and my therapist at PT) was everyone loved Ellen.

I must not pay that close attention to who hugs who or mentions in their acceptances speeches, as I had no idea any of those slights occurred.

Jared Leto definitely has good genes (I was also shocked to learn he is 42) but I still think he needs a good haircut.

“And the icing for me was Lupita! She was beautiful, and her speech was gracious. She has set a new standard of beauty for so many of us who are dark skinned, and are never featured or thought of as beautiful. I hope she gets awesome roles going forward and it’s not business as usual in Hollywood.”

She is DDG! The most gorgeous face and gorgeous skin color. The baby blue dress worked beautifully on her. I can’t think of anyone else who could have carried off that color.

I thought she had the nicest dress of all. It was so simple and beautiful. Several times I thought it was going to fall off of her.

Yeah, Lupita is a real beauty. She looks so fresh and classy and really knows what colors look good on her. I haven’t kept track of the genders who have posted here about her…I am assuming majority female. Does she have a look that women adore, or are guys into the Lupita love, too? (Johnny Weir doesn’t count.)

Did anyone else wonder what was wrong with Harrison Ford? It almost seemed as if he had been drinking.

I did a Google search…this question has been coming up regarding his appearances on awards shows and talk shows since at least 2002. Theories are 1) drunk, or 2) great fear of public speaking. (Or maybe drunk due to fear of public speakin?)

Speaking.

What’s with bad plastic surgery–Kim Novak looked horrible. Goldie Hawn didn’t look much better. I don’t have a problem with women getting plastic surgery but you’d think that there’s got to be a way to do it so that it doesn’t look so obvious and/or completely change the way a woman looks.

Get out - Jared Leto is 42??? I thought he was in his 20s. I told DS1, who’s a theater major, that when he goes to the academy awards he has to take me.

I got 18/24 correct. Could have been 21 but I went against better judgement because of biased agendas.

Lupita looks beautiful.

I dont know who works on Andie MacDowell but that is who I would use if I was a female and into that kind of thing.

“Get out - Jared Leto is 42??? I thought he was in his 20s.”

Yep. 20 years ago he was in My So Called Life.

So I thought all the expected winners won their respective prizes although I did recently think that with all the buzz about Jennifer Lawrence and American Hustle, she would take it over Lupita but thankfully she didn’t, not there was anything wrong with JL’s performance or the movie, I just thought Lupita was outstanding performance and 12 Years a Slave an incredible film. I thought both Lupita and Jared Leto had the most gracious acceptance speeches. I am not a huge Ellen fan, thought she had her moments both good and bad but for me it is an awards show not an entertainment or variety show. I thought the pizza bit was stupid and would have preferred that they used the time for actual presentations of honorary Oscars to Angela Lansbury and Steve Martin, just as they used to do back in the old days.
Someone needs to make certain that the actors presenting performers practice their lines and not just read off the teleprompter… seriously it wasn’t as is John Travolta had to memorize a Shakspearean monologue, he had to introduce one person, a person who has been well recognized with this song many times in the recent few months.
About to watch Fashion Police but there weren’t many fashion disasters this time around, save Sally Hawkins and perhaps Penelope Cruz. I absolutely loved Lupita and Cate Blanchett, Charlize Theron, Amy Adams, Sandra Bullock, both Olivia Wilde and Kerry Washington looking radiant in their pregnancies… and what about Kate Hudson. She looked like a movie star and Jessica Biel…many memorable dresses.

I told DH that and he was surprised too. We both thought he was in his 20s. Clearly, I never watched that show.

I read that Travolta managed her name just fine in the rehearsals on Saturday. He screwed up big time, and I’ve yet to see any sort of mention of an apology issued for it.

Don’t want to be catty, but Matthew McConaughey’s hair got darker each time I’ve seen him on TV recently. It was near shoe polish at the Oscars. And the dude has some ego issues.

I thought Lupita Nyong’o’s acceptance was very nice except I believe we filter it through a lens that doesn’t really fit her actual life. Her family is a big deal in Kenya - and is highly successful in the US as well. I think people hear the bit about dreams and don’t realize that it would as hard or harder for a kid from a poor part of Kansas City to “make it” than a Hampshire College/Yale Drama graduate from a well off, well known African family. (BTW, I thought she was great. I’m just commenting on the reactions to her words.)

I really liked Cate Blanchett’s dress and the real feeling in her speech. In nice contrast to Anne Hathaway’s stage whisper to the statue when she won: “It came true” … like everyone wouldn’t hear.

I assumed the Liza Minnelli joke was cleared with her first. It would otherwise be too cruel.

And I wonder how much Samsung paid to have their phone toted around so conspicuously. Silly part is Ellen is a noted iPhone user, with an iPhone app.

The news is calling Lupita a “Cinderella” story. Not really.

Oh I don’t know… Just because his own personal hero is HIMSELF?

Good Lord, in the unlikely event that I ever have to give an acceptance speech, I hope somebody I love will proof read it and, if necessary, save me from myself.

All I noticed was he looked awfully orange.
I dont think it was my tv cause every one else looked fine.

*don’t have a problem with women getting plastic surgery but you’d think that there’s got to be a way to do it so that it doesn’t look so obvious and/or completely change the way a woman looks.

They should find out who Helen Mirren and Bette Midler go to.

“Oh I don’t know… Just because his own personal hero is HIMSELF?”

You missed the point of what he said, there. It was actually an interesting concept but that wasn’t it. And, he was funny. And best of all, he isn’t Leo.
