What was the point of all the animated film clips? I thought that it might be the lead-in to the animated film awards, but it wasn’t. This is where the show so often goes off the rails, imho - all the sequences and features and tributes that leave people like me scratching their heads.

Very nice speech from Jared Leto. A bit long but I’m glad they didn’t play him off. I always like it when the nominees thank their families in detail.

A lot of them (including Ellen) are stumbling over their lines. I wonder if there is a problem with the teleprompters? Still, though, most presenters are actors. They couldn’t memorize their few lines?!

MSN has a storyline up already asking whether or not one of Ellen’s opening lines went to far… referring to her dig at Liza. I’ll bet Liza didn’t appreciate it. All the others seemed to laugh at themselves.

Argh. I don’t understand why they don’t present the special awards during the live broadcast instead of just showing clips from an earlier ceremony. Maybe they want to give the recipients more time to be honored at a separate time. But remembering the honorary awards for Cary Grant and Charlie Chaplin from years ago, it seems a shame. I would like to have seen Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin, and Angelina Jolie receive their awards - a lot more than I am enjoying the random clips and the lame jokes about having pizza delivered.

Really, I’m only half watching here but this really quite a dreadful show, imho. Between the weird singing and actors stumbling over every other line and yes, lame jokes. So far, this is a bad one. I did love J Law’s orange dress.

Sorry, frazzled, I disagree. I don’t care about the special awards, or most of the “minor” awards on the show. I know those folks deserve recognition, I just don’t particularly care to watch that recognition. Maybe have a separate broadcast for that stuff, so those who really care can see it all, and the mainstream fans get the shorter broadcast they really want.
