I thought Barbra Streisand looked fine (she’s 74!) and chose to dress in a Revolutionary way.
@doschicos did you get your ticketmaster? I have tickets for September (second time-I’m obsessed) but I got them November 2015. Front mezzanine tickets will be good-the theater is not very big.
I want to see Barbra Streisand do Carpool Karaoke!
I was unable to watch the Tony Awards.
I just watched the opening number on youtube.
I am a huge James Corden fan. I think he is fantastic.
I was at a wedding Saturday. A son of a friend of mine just told me he is going to work for James Corden on the Late Late Show. I was told James Corden is a great guy.
patsmom, I thought the same thing last night. That would be the ultimate carpool karaoke! I kept hoping he would ask her:)
@alwaysamom - They released some official tickets for many shows between this month and May last night. I had my name on their mailing list and was able to pick up tickets off ticketmaster for $199 for front mezz. Not surprisingly, they sold out quickly. The new orchestra tickets were going for over $800. It was Lin’s attempt to keep money in the show’s pocket and less in the scalpers’ pockets.
@prefect Yes! for 2 dates in September. #rd and 4th row of Front Mezz.
I was able to pick up 4th row center orchestra “premium” tickets last night for $549 each for this October, so the $800+ seats may only apply to 2017 shows. All I know is that I am thrilled beyond belief :).
@doschicos That’s great that they were from the official release. That was originally scheduled to happen later which is why I posted what I did. They moved it up to coincide with the Tonys as well as to try and placate fans about Lin leaving early. Enjoy!
Yea, it would have been great to see a live Lin performance, bit we must let him move on to coming up with new genius creations.
This is where LMM is going next - I’m not sure if he’s just starring, or is involved in production. (Seems like a waste NOT to involve him in production…)

Barbra Streisand has always had unorthodox choices in hair, make-up and attire, much of which are quite unflattering… (anyone remember this?http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/worst-academy-awards-dresses-time-gallery-1.1704124?pmSlide=1.1024008) I thought she looked exactly like herself–not a bad way to look at her age! But the real wonder was Carole King–also 74, and looking fabulous. Tiny people seem to age better. Too bad I’m not one of them…
I wouldn’t pay that much to see a a Broadway show if they promised to raise Alexander Hamilton from the dead just for that performance, but to each his own.
I think that Rob Marshall, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman have things well in hand. ![]()
@MommaJ while I agree with you about the other shows being a little disappointing about going up against the Hamilton juggernaut, that happens a lot in many years, just not to this extent. Remember The Producers?
And note that Hamilton did not win all the technical awards. I was shocked it lost Lighting Design but I have not seen She Loves Me. Still I thought Hamiltons lighting was ingenious and creative. Don’t believe Ham won set design either.
@surfcity, I believe Hamilton did win for lighting design (Howell Binkley); it was scenic design that She Loves Me (David Rockwell) won over Hamilton (David Korins) and the other nominees. http://www.tonyawards.com/en_US/nominees/index.html
Yes, Howell did win! And watch for him in 2017, as he may just win another!
OH my mistake! Hamilton DID win for lighting. I don’t know where I got my info. Oh good. Yes, it lost scenic design.
Perhaps a better question would be the choreography award. I did think Hamilton’s choreography was very creative, but watching the scene from Shuffle Along last night, that show seemed to be all about dancing and I wonder if people feel it should have received the choreography award??
It’s hard to think that anyone could be a better choreographer than Savion Glover, certainly. But Hamilton’s choreography is so brilliant (what I’ve seen of it in clips) and fits the piece so well. I’m glad I didn’t have to choose. What a great number from Shuffle Along that was. I didn’t know Audra McDonald could also dance so well, but why should I be surprised? That woman can do anything.
Yes, she can - and she is several months pregnant. She might be superwoman.
I thought this was an outstanding Tony Awards evening, especially given the tragic circumstances. They opening speech by James Corden addressing the tragedy was emotional and well done. Several of the honorees had touching remarks and what can you say about Lin Manuel… he is truly truly an amazing genius. I had watched the 60 minutes piece before the Awards show and they showed the piece of him that the Obamas spoke about in their video introduction… So I haven’t seen Hamilton yet and I am a huge theatregoer. I have my limits though for prices and I would probably never pay more than $200 or $250. My friend’s daughter was scammed for Hamilton tickets on Craigslist but the box office took pity on her as her 13 year daughter was crying hysterically as it was her 13th birthday. She did end up paying about $300 for two house seats on the spot… great seats. Her daughter loved it. It is so disappointing that I haven’t gotten to see it but even when Lin Manuel leaves next month, the show will still be amazing. I would think most of the original cast will depart soon but there will undoubtedly be amazing talented replacements and the show will continue and at some point, it will not be as difficult to get tickets.
I have seen most of the plays including “The Humans” which is outstanding but I personally thought “Eclipsed” was a superior play and that the women were an incredible ensemble. The ensemble in “The Humans” is also outstanding but the play didn’t touch me in the way that “Eclipsed” did. I have tickets with my daughter to see “She Loves Me” tomorrow night and we will get tickets for “The Color Purple”. Had wanted to see it with Jennifer Hudson but absolutely love Heather Headley and there has been a huge buzz about Cynthia Erivo since the show opened.
Was so happy that “A View from the Bridge” won best revival and that the director, Ivo Von Hove won for “Best Director " intense, stripped down play. Also saw his production of “The Crucible” that was very strong and is still on. I had seen the recently closed limited run of 'Spring Awakening” - very well done, very moving and so creative.
OK, I have to rescind my earlier statement that James Corden was better than NPH. I rewatched Neil’s opening number from the 2013 Tony’s. I can’t imagine any host ever topping this.
