Who's watching the Tony Awards?

Now D and I are trying to pick another show to see next weekend, based on what we saw and learned tonight.

I just checked for a day in September when we will be on the East Coast& they were $199 each - maybe I should snap them up.

I’m guessing that’s Sept. 2017?? Not this September, right?

DS tried to get ti for the Harry Potter show in London and they were $800/ticket. Um, no way.

This September. I’m trying to get tickets but my first attempt was shut down, I assume because of high traffic at the website.

Hmmm - I can’t get back to the site. I was probably mistaken. Oh well. If I do find my way back & that is indeed the price I will grab them!

I’m about to purchase Sunday matinee tickets this September. Front mezzanine. Can anyone tell me in 2 minutes if I am making a mistake for any reason?

Why would it be a mistake? Go for it!

Seem to easy and good to be true.

Done on 4 tickets.

I thought it was interesting that the email came through at 11:11. Make a wish…

What showw are you^^^guys talking about?

Me? Hamilton tickets in NYC.

Has anyone spotted NPH in the front row, totally bald? Apparently he’s filming a Lemony Snicket movie & is playing the villain & needs to be bald for the role. He’s almost unrecognizable with no hair.

For the “Yorktown” performance at the Tonys, the Hamilton cast did not use their rifles and instead pantomimed the rifles out of respect for the victims of Orlando.

Thought it was a fabulous show all around. James Corden did a great job (just wish he stuck to a black tux), Many wonderful and thoughtful speeches led by LMM and Frank Langella. Also loved how truly happy LMM appeared when he lost the best actor award to Leslie Odom Jr. There is something special about the Broadway community.

I’m seeing Hamilton soon – can’t wait.

I really enjoyed the broadcast. The Tonys are always so well produced, and Corden was a great host whose enthusiasm for Broadway really came through.

I did feel awfully sorry for some of the excellent nominees who must have known they had no chance against the Hamilton juggernaut and had to be thinking that timing in life is everything. At the same time, I have to wonder whether many of the voters get so caught up with the excitement over a blockbuster like Hamilton that they tend to vote for those associated with it reflexively. I’m sure the winners were all quite deserving, but when I see three of the four musical acting awards and so many other awards, like choreography, lighting, etc., go to one production, I get a bit skeptical about the process. I was glad to see Cynthia Erivo break the mold by nabbing best actress in a musical. She was just outstanding in the piece she performed during the show. I saw the previous production of The Color Purple when Fantasia took over the role of Celie. She was magnificent, but the show itself was mediocre. I understand the current version is significantly tightened up and far better. Anyone seen it? How about The Humans, which got the most nods for a drama?

The best moment of the evening was when Leslie won the award for Best Actor. He deserved it 100%! So very happy for him!

I hope those of you who are purchasing tickets are using the Verified resale tickets from Ticketmaster. There have been many cases of fraudulent resellers with Hamilton. It isn’t likely/possible to get $199 tickets for any seat for this September. There are no venue tickets available, only resale. A quick check of Ticketmaster shows the minimum for almost every show is $685 and most shows higher than that. Be careful what you’re buying!

Lin-Manual Miranda himself has warned about buying fake tickets. There are many reports of scams and theater goers turned away at the door. He also penned a strong op-Ed in the NY Times deploring the resellers use of “bots” and the exorbitant mark up they are charging.

@MommaJ we saw Long Day’s Journey, The Crucible, and The Humans last month. All were excellent, but The Humans was our favorite (although the performances in Long Day’s Journey were remarkable). The Humans is slated to close in July; wonder if it will be extended?

Did anyone else think Barbra Streisand looked awful? Like she had bad plastic surgery I also thought her outfit was terrible. It was one of only two negatives for me. The other was that they used valuable time to replay the Carpool Karaoke to promote James Corden’s show. Granted, this time they integrated the King George III song into it, but otherwise it contained same material as last week that has already been viewed by a large percentage of Broadway fans; however, since the show was running over, they could have cut that without any loss of quality in the show. Fortunately, I had added an extension on my DVR. I was thrilled that they had the Hamilton cast sing another number to close the show?

All in all, the Tony’s this year were really a terrific show. We have one day in September to see one show in NYC - not at all sure what it will be. So many possibilities - The Color Purple, The Humans, School of Rock. And I would love to see The Book of Mormon in NYC - we saw it done in an enormous theater here in San Diego, but it would be a whole other experience in a small Broadway theater.

I’m going to give up on Hamilton for now. I just can’t stomach the ticket prices when there are so many other excellent choices - we’ll see it when it when the national tour comes to town during the 2017-18 season.
