The thread “would you have done it” have gone on a wrong track with U-M students/advocate taking it personaly.

So to clarify the stance: I would like to know what on the earth provide a good reason for student from California to apply to U-M forget considering joining.

In the other thread YOU were comparing Brown and UM.

I said in the other thread I would pick UM over Brown for Engineering.

Also, what if you don’t get in to Berkeley or CIT? There is no harm in applying to UCB, CIT, USC, UM and then deciding after you get your results?

Perhaps…they want to get away from mommy and daddy in California for a few years of their life? They don’t want to go to the same school as their friends? They want to experience 4 seasons of weather? They get a great scholarship from UMich or private organization and it negates the difference in tuition? They want to experience Big 10 athletics? They want to go to a school that’s nationally known in more than one sport? They enjoy the Midwest? They don’t want to go to school with a bunch of people who are concerned about rankings? Or they don’t want to go to school with kids whose parents are overly concerned with rankings?

Can anyone post how many students from California actually attend U-M at the undergraduate level as that will put end to this discussion one way or the other.
