If you want a mood-brightener (especially if you’re a Broadway musical fan), look on YouTube or Perez Hilton for a clip from the recent wedding of Vanessa and Lin Manuel. As a surprise for the bride, members of both families performed “L’Chaim” from Fiddler on the Roof. So sweet, and some serious vocalizing from the groom (Tony winner and creator of “In the Heights”) and his dad.

I usually only click on perezhilton with trepidation, but my d swore I’d love this clip, and I do.

Often the closest friends of the bride and/or groom are of the opposite sex. Some people feel these friendships should be honored, so a groom may have a close woman friend as a “groomswoman” and the bride may have a close male friend as a “bridesman.”

Just went to a wedding where the maid of honor was the bride’s brother. He went by the title, “Bro of honor.”

I went to a wedding where the bride and groom sang a song for each other at the reception. The bride was an accomplished singer. Groom’s first public performance ever was at the reception. Definitely could have stopped after the bride’s song…

H sang to me at our wedding. He’s a professional singer so I feared he would do that. I told him, “If you’re going to sing, please don’t tell me about it in advance.” It was sweet and probably the highlight of the ceremony for everyone but what the heck does a real person do while she is being sung to???

Okay, I disagree on the singing thing. I thought one of the great things about this is that they weren’t all great singers, but they love this couple enough to get up there and belt it out anyway, just to make them happy. What a treat!

Years ago, a coworker got married & the groom sang to her as she walked down the aisle. He had a great voice, and the bride handled it very well (I am sure she knew beforehand) - but we all sat in the pew whispering about how embarrassed we would be if we had to stand there while our H’s sang to us in front of a crowd!

Which reminds me … my oh-so-classy friends got a male stripper for my bachelorette party. I was MORTIFIED!!! I couldn’t even look at him … it was beyond embarrassing to have my friends laughing & watching for my reaction. I was so relieved when he left! :)

At my wedding, I managed to stand there with a somewhat angelic expression on my face. But you know how they say that the more stressed you are, the more often you blink? The video gives me away because I was blinking about three times a second.

I went to a wedding where the groom sang “A Whole New World” (yup - the Disney Aladdin song) to his bride during the ceremony. At his brother’s wedding a couple of years later, the brother sang, “My Brown Eyed Girl” to his new wife at the reception. It was kind of sweet (although the Disney song in the wedding sort of struck me – they WERE very young when they got married – although still married now about 15 years later). Both had good voices, so that helped.
