Why and why not UVa?

Hey guys,

So UVa is one of my top choices of schools to attend next year and I was wondering if some current students could tell me about why they chose to become a hoo. Also if you could give me your least favorite thing about UVa or one thing you’d change about it that would be great.

Thanks so much for your input!!

Few current students participate on this site. Here’s a couple perspectives.

My son reported that almost all the professors were very quality. There were many complaints about the statistics profs and some of the chemistry profs in intro classes. Some of the first year classes are very large, but large first year classes are common at many universities. It can be difficult to register for all of the classes you want your first year, but as you progress, you will get more and more preference in registration each year. It was particularly difficult for him to register for classes in the Politics department, but once he was accepted to the Batten School, he was able to quickly get into every class that he wanted except one. Part of the problem is that many of the politics professors are popular, and there was a shortage of Politics courses (at least as of a few years ago). Most of the first year math and writing classes are taught by grad students.

The U. offers various seminars for first year students so they can have a smaller class size with a professor.
