does anyone know??

Because unqualified unexperienced users, who simply answer for the bonus +2 crap, are prevalent.

Most of the time I don’t even bother reading Yahoo Answers, it’s too painful.

Some reasons, after some thought:

-The answer in Yahoo Answers is chosen based on an open vote, and does not require the citation of sources. Therefore, the chosen “best” answer is not rewarded based on correctness, but popular opinion. An unpopular or counterintuitive but correct line of reasoning would not be rewarded here. Intelligent people are more likely to understand the difficulty of having an unpopular but correct line of reasoning, and so would not gravitate towards a system like that of Yahoo Answers’. Moreover, the voters are anonymous and do not need to explain why they vote up or down an answer.
-Anyone who still uses Yahoo services must be lacking somehow in intelligence
-The organization of Yahoo Answers is really messy, the same question could be asked and answered multiple times, which could turn off smart people

Just compare Wikipedia to Yahoo Answers. Both have the concept of amassing user-generated knowledge, but one is much more rigorous in the way it operates, and thus has developed some credibility. Wikipedia’s primary concern is accuracy, Yahoo Answers’ is not.

^ Agree, WikiAnswers are much more reliable.

I don’t know much about Wikianswers, but it’s probably more tolerable than Yahoo Answers only because it has fewer users. Wikipedia, however, is the prime example of the utilization of user generated information done right.

haha nice answers ^^^

Just know nothing Wiki is necessarily confirmed accurate. Or whole.

^The all time greatest:

Ohhhhhhhh -.-

Wikianswers is great because you can search for a question and it will take you to a completely different question, and then you look to the bottom and you’ll see what you typed in listed as an equivalent question.

IOW, it’s ****ing pointless.

They’re pretty good sometimes-- a good read I mean. :P

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_come_cupcake_is_not_considered_a_mineral

They’re answered by anybody

Gosh, I thought it’d be much more obvious…because it’s Yahoo and not the Google nor even the mighty Wiki.

Wiki answers tend to be less helpful than Yahoo Answers. Yes, there are idiotic responses for YA. But, more often than not, YA is helpful and gives good information from a credible source. Wikianswers almost always fails to provide an answer for whatever question I may have. But maybe that’s because most of my questions are HW related.

Google yahoo answers fails. Some of the funniest **** ever.

^^“A credible source” being whatever random dude is on Yahoo answers?

I used to have a Yahoo Answers account, back before my CC days :)

^^ Guess it depends on the questions you ask, but a lot of the ones I look up even post websites from where they got their answer. Plus, it’s not always teenagers or random idiots posting answers. Sometimes you have professors or people who work in a field related to the question who answer them. At least for me.
