I have started the application process. However, I never really stopped to think why I am doing this until now. For me, I believe it is for the boarding experience and more rigorous courses. Curious about everyone else’s reasons.

For me, it’s making up opportunities my brother never got to experience. He struggled with substance addiction during his time at Governor’s, and was asked to leave during his Junior year. I remember vividly walking onto the Govs campus as a fourth grader when he was a Freshman and thinking “I want to do something like this someday” That feeling never left, and here I am six years later, still working on that dream.

(I know it’s chintzy, but what can I say?)

I have divorced parents and I don’t want to keep on switching between them. Also I do alot of activities at different places and I think I could benefit from having everything in one place, and I want to be at my school where I am proud to be sitting at a table with my peers.

My dad was an alcoholic, and I wanted to get out of the house more than anything. He passed away in April, the tension between my mom and I increased. He had attended Mercersburg, so I grew up comfortable with the idea of boarding school. Other than that, I hated my other school and wanted to be with nice people who I fit in with but could be different at the same time. The opportunities I’ve gotten to experience here are amazing, and I’m so glad I ended up at Saint James.

I was looking for more of a challenge compared to my old school. I came from a school of 3000+ kids with about 50 students (more or less) per classroom.

I applied to boarding school for the opportunities and the academics. As a current Exonian, the number of clubs and activities is amazing. The classes are amazing. The experience is amazing, even in just the first few months I’ve been here.
