Why do American Jews and Asians do so well in Life??

Well, it’s not always true for Jewish Americans. If you watch The Nanny, Fran Fine doesn’t seem like she was one of the best students of her class. Lol, jk.

Actually Jersey, you sound bitter. LOL.

I don’t think it’s stupid to say Asians place greater emphasis on education. In fact, it would seem in general that there’s a much greater cultural emphasis on objective achievement.

Even though my parents are from China and I do well in school, my parents don’t push me and my work ethic is pretty bad (eg finishing homework 10 mins before it’s due, skimming through notes right before a test). I just happen to have a really good memory, which I probably inherited from my parents. I’m working on that work ethic thing though.

Asian immigrants to the United States tend to be smarter than the rest of the Asian population, and they will probably pass on the genetic traits or work ethic that they used to become successful to their children.

I think it’s a similar case for the Jews. Except for Jews it’s not so much the problem of immigration as it is the problem of making it out of all the **** they’ve gone through since the beginning of time pretty much.

Jersey you’re asian?

I definitely agree with most people.

I dont think jews are smart because they are “god’s chosen people.” They wrote the old testament. If i wrote a bible, I’d be the freaking messiah/Allah/ God-Nazi in chief. lol

Anways, I think the typical smart middle and upper middle class American is kind of like me: very smart, very lazy. We watch the asian people just study study study and we feel badly. Then we study and get distracted by facebook. IS ANNIE CHATTING ME??
In addition, I do indeed think Asians place greater emphasis on education. White parents probably are very content: born into an upper middle class life style and maintaining an upper middle class life style. They dont feel the need to push their kids to succeed. Asians and Jews both had HORRIBLE 20th centuries. Chinese, Japanese, Jews, and well asians in general died en masse. Those that did survive probably feel the need to socially climb.

It just doesnt make sense why Jews would thrive after 3000 years of persecution while the blacks are getting raped after just 300-400 years of persecution.

^^^^^

THANK YOU. Thats what I’ve been trying to tell everyone. They all go like: NO! Lets give them affirmative action. I dont see us giving the Japanese affirmative action for nuking them… I dont see us giving the Vietnamese affirmative action for using Napalm and Agent orange on them…

Yes! cs12345 you’re completely spot on.

To the original question, I’m Asian (Indian) often outperform at least ~95% of classmates. It’s basically because of what’s possible. My parents came here in the 90’s with literally around $20. It boils down to (usually) if you’re Jewish or Asian, your parents instill a passion for learning and drive you to work harder. I wonder what the world would be like if everybody had Asian/Jewish parents. And seriously. I want to say this again because it’s actually true in most aspects.

Because asians and jews work hard with what they have instead of dwelling on the past like black people.

slavery happened 200 years ago. move the **** on

^ ^^ obviously you guys aren’t smart enough to recognize a ■■■■■.

Kinda sad that you have such shallow minds that you find what he said positively exciting.

lol @ your pm

I do think Jews, in average, are inherently very smart (and cunning too, no wonder there is anti-semitism. There is always a reason behind it. Anti-semitism does not arise from no where). Take a look at the best minds in math/science, we have: Richard Feynman, Albert Einstein, Grigori Perelman… All are legendary in math/physics. What’s more about the discipline is that it takes a brilliant mind to be successful, rather than mere determination, curiosity, and passion like chemistry/biology. Throughout the course of history, Jews produced lots of brilliant minds in math/science.
As for asian immigrants, they should outperform American students, given the fact that curriculum in their native country is at least twice as rigorous as that of U.S., especially in math and science (in this case, I’ll say at least 2 grade levels ahead). Thus, asian being good at math/science background is reasonable. And yes, they are also motivated by their parents. Their culture is prolly the exact opposite as that of U.S. (intellectualism vs. anti-intellectualism). There is no such thing as a nerd-culture in Asia, I believe, solely in America. Certainly, Asians, in my opinion, are not inherently smarter than their racial peers, even the ones who are brought here. They just work harder. Asians don’t produce top-notch/legendary scientists/mathematicians, but rather, produce a lot of good scientists in the medium spectrum. This is why. DOing research at hi-level, especially for math and physics, requires hi-intellectual capacity that everyone doesn’t cut out to be.

What you see in America isn’t the “average” Asian. The ones you see in your American life are more well to do than the average Asian. Here, we group everyone from that part of the globe into the catagory of Asian. Have you ever called a Korean person Chinese? They get completely offended. If you went to Korea or China, I’m sure you would find more than a few uneducated people who aren’t having such a great life.

what??!?? all Chinese I know get completely offended when people call them Koreans. I remember I was told once that, before ww1, Korea was kind of under Chinese suzerainty.

and I think every country has a portion of people who aren’t interested in education or being educated whatsoever.

they are easier to produce genius than other nations do, maybe. on average I think everyone is the same.

@ jasonInNy

For your information, Asians do receive forms of affirmative action, especially when bidding for government contracts as “minority owned businesses”. Furthermore, African Americans continue to face institutionalized racism in this country and that is a fact. I hope you educate yourself on the plight of blacks in this country before making ignorant and hurtful statements.

Thanks

“they are easier to produce genius than other nations do, maybe. on average I think everyone is the same.”

I don’t know if you thought this made sense when you posted, but it does not.

" Furthermore, African Americans continue to face institutionalized racism in this country and that is a fact."

Might be more convincing if you backed this up, or gave an example, or said anything to suggest that this is actually the case at all.

^ I mean, the percentage of genius among Jews is higher than that of other nations. But apart from genius, an ordinary Jew is as smart as an ordinary person of other nations.

I know plenty of asians that don’t do well in school. I use to work with a few who came straight from China who could barely speak English and were doing horrible in school. And then there are the ones I know who speak english fluently, but became complacent and stopped working hard in school. A former classmate of mine got complacent in high school and now has transferred to a community college from Penn State Main because he couldn’t handle the workload. And then there are the asians who grew up here, but fell into the ghetto trap. A lot of the parents move here with hardly any money and wound up living in the ghetto, and sometimes their kids fall in with the wrong crowds. It’s unfortunate.

Yes, I’m bitter because people are complaining how successful people of my race/ethnicity are. Glad you thought that one through.

Yes

Strange, I thought Asians use facebook too. Anyways, you describing yourself as “very smart” gave me a good laugh.

Right, because the greatest casualties from the two world wars were for the Jews and Asians.

CCers are usually talking about affirmative action in college admissions when they say “affirmative action policies”. And I’m sure Hispanics/African-Americans/Native Americans are also benefactors of “minority owned businesses” policies so your point is moot. Sure African Americans continue to face institutionalized racism, and Asians don’t?

I’d say many Asians do so well because of the influence their parents have. Oriental Asian parents (Japan, China, Korea, etc.) had it tough during their school days. Kids in those countries work endlessly. The college/university system is so unforgiving that high schoolers constantly raise the competition, to the point where getting 4 hours of sleep a night is a really good night. If you can’t get into one of the very few top universities, you may as well give up - it’s this kind of drive that Asian parents grew up with. And while the American system is much more based on creative/imaginative thinking rather than memorization, the Asian parents constantly drive their children to excel in all areas - hence the imaginative, but sadly true, “Asian Grading System” of A being Average and everything else being awful, with an F being *****ed.

Lol I think I have it the worst for college admissions. I’m a purebred asian, yet my parents aren’t the stereotypical asian parents. They don’t push me at all, so I have neither the support and advantage from having education-oriented parents nor affirmative action on my side.
