Why do Americans abuse the English language?

Why do Americans abuse the English language? I.E. “Between you and I,…” “It is me,” “Who did you play with?”; pronouncing the word “nuclear” as “nu-clu-ee-ur” instead of “nu-clee-ur”; saying “fishes” or “oxes”; etc.

There are just so many ways that Americans devastate the English language. Even teachers - English ones - who are supposed to be educated about the proper ways of grammar have succumbed to these errors merely because everyone speaks or writes in such an improper way that those mistakes are imprinted into their minds as the truths. I don’t see these problems occurring with British people and the Canadians, so why is it that Americans have become victims of such idiocy?

Because we don’t give a ****

Maybe its because the british empire is over and nobody cares about the british

btw… you as a general people need dentists

^ Dentists? What?

Your teeth are ******ed up

I don’t know about you, but I’ve heard Brits/Canadians/Australians use improper English too…

^ I meant a good majority of Americans to the point where even political leaders are committing to grammatical errors.

^^ I live in California ■■■■■.

^^^wt.f? I’m pretty sure Truffliepuff isn’t british and if they were you’re a bigoted as$

Anyway, I’ve noticed this too and bothers me A LOT.

Everyone does but things like “refudiate” are a bit much.

Who cares? The point of language is communication; if you’re getting your point across clearly, it doesn’t really matter if you make a few mistakes here and there. I don’t understand why language has to be set in stone.

I’m fairly certain that there are Spanish-speaking people that abuse the Spanish Language, French-speakers that abuse French, and load of other languages.

Your statement bears the same for all languages.

im pretty sure that you are the definition of a ****** bag. Nobody likes you and nobody cares how you pronounce words or use grammer. If people can understand you and you can understand other people, then whaat is tthe problem?

I could write a couple paragraphs on the subject but quite frankly I’m tired and I don’t really feel like so I’m just going to be honest. Just like futureexecutive said we just don’t really care. No one wants to carry around a book of grammar just to say one or two things to someone.

And Americans are not abusing the English language. Language is always changing. Words are becoming nonchalant and other words are being placed into dictionaries everyday. Language is changing. No big deal.

Stop being so pretentious…

Like MIThopeful said, it happens in all languages.

face/palm

@Rad, how was that bigoted?

truffliepuff, there’s a stereotype that British have bad teeth.

I only get bugged when people use “there” in place of “their”, anyways instead of anyway, or alot instead of a lot.

idiots.

lol :D

My (Canadian) teacher just said this the other day, and I realized that it’s quite true - everyone just hates Americans because we’re at the top. So yes, there are idiotic American politicians who used to be beauty queens, but there are also stupid politicians in other countries. It’s just that the United States gets a lot more attention from the rest of the world. There are smart Americans who know how to use grammar and how to spell, and there are stupid Americans who don’t. Put any other nationality, culture, or ethnicity in there and it’ll be true.

Ugh, who cares. As long as i can understand you it doesn’t matter. And tons of British/Canadians/Australians also abuse the English language. Have you been to a Latin American country, the Spanish they speak is quite different than the one spoken by the Spaniards. America is its own country, we don’t have to act like Englishmen and women.

You know why Enlish now is different from that of the Shakespearean period? Or even from Old English such as in Beowulf?

Because people speak in different ways. They speak incorrectly, then that speech becomes so popular that it becomes the correct way. It’s called evolution of language and it happens every day in every language. Saying something “wrong” is not an abomination, it’s the future of the language (in some cases).

Your statements is the same as:
“Why do people not use proper grammar when texting?”
