@AnitaLend- That’s really interesting- I should do my psych project on that.

Everyone just hold on one second. It’s just a coincidence that guys score higher on the SAT. The real trend is that there is a direct correlation between height and SAT scores. Guys just happen to be taller, so that’s why they do better. This also explains why most Hispanics score poorly.

Side note: It’s kinda funny how uppity girls get whenever someone says guys are better at something.

well it’s not like you’d understand, since you’re a guy.

Maybe guys are just smarter than girls. I have no way to back this up and I’m not sure I even think it’s true, but it shouldn’t be automatically discounted out of political correctness. Who says we have to be equal cognitively. We have no problem making claims about physical and athletic differences between the sexes.

A variety of factors are at play. Many in this thread have already pointed them out.
Girls have more test anxiety.
Girls are better at following directions in school.
Girls do more poorly in math than they do better in writing.
Guys are more likely to see the SAT as a challenge to be overcome.

The SAT does a very good job at measuring what it seeks to measure. Of course there are other abilities that aren’t tested by the SAT. Intelligence is a very subjective notion, and one that isn’t very well-defined. We must sufficiently define it first before we make any conclusions about anything.

who are you helping by saying these things?

who says you have to tell others what they’re capable of and try to narrowly define intelligence?

unless of course you’re ■■■■■■■■. in that case: well played

In this case we’d be disregarding your comment not because of political correctness but rather because you say you don’t have evidence.

I don’t think a statement needs to help anyone to be worth saying. The problem is not that there might be an intelligence difference between men and women on average. (“Men are more intelligent than women on average” is NOT a claim about the abilities of any individual.)

The problem is that people could use this difference (if, if, if it exists) to discourage individual women from pursuing fields viewed as intellectually difficult. This doesn’t mean we should censor science…it means we need to fix the culture.

Hmm, not really sure I know what the hell you’re talking about.
First of all, I’m not trying “to help” anybody. The goal is to discern truth.
I’m not telling anybody what they are capable of. I’m simply saying that there is a possibility that males and females, on average, are just not the same in terms of certain abilities. Whether such a difference, if it exists, is due to an innate difference or a sociological one is another debate.
How am I narrowly defining intelligence? I’m not defining it at all.

i’m not saying everything people say has to help someone, or that we should censor science, but if it’s only going to discourage people and there’s no evidence to its validity, then why say it?

LOL but you have no evidence

and i said the thing about narrowly defining intelligence because of

it’s subjective because there are many ways to be intelligent.

and you’re telling others what they’re capable of by implying that guys are more intelligent than girls because of certain qualities one gender typically has over the other.

like pick a side, would ya

The Dialogue of the Sexist Boy

-“Girls are just worse at some stuff. It’s not political, it’s fact”

-“Why are you getting upset at me insulting an entire gender which has been generally seen as ‘less than’ another gender for the majority of human history which has greatly affected the way members of this gender are still viewed by society and still sometimes view themselves which affects everything about everything about everything boo hoo men are just better- and you’re a hormonal, emotional, oversensitive b-word”

LOL migraine

i really did lol though

You wouldn’t do very well on the LSAT based on your analysis of my statements.

First quote: I didn’t say I knew what the truth was, I just said the goal is determine the truth.

Second quote: You’re right. There are many ways to be intelligent; hence, we must sufficiently define it.

Third quote: Pick a side? The two statements are not contradictory. Key words: maybe and possibility.

but how does what you said help with determining the truth, if there’s no evidence?

okay, so how do you think we should go about sufficiently defining something that’s inherently subjective?

yeah, pick a side, because you implied that guys could be more intelligent than girls, but then you were like “oh i mean they just have certain qualities girls don’t have.”

I haven’t read your conversation with clementines, but bro, there’s a way of saying things without sounding like a jerk.

As I’ve said before, I don’t think it’s inherently sexist to suggest that there could be an intelligence difference between guys and girls on average, but I agree that people who say “maybe guys are just smarter” aren’t usually coming from an especially impartial perspective (if that’s even possible when you’re talking about gender).

It’s interesting that he chose to entertain that particular unsubstantiated claim instead of some other one (like maybe, “girls are more intelligent than boys because they get better grades”).

Whatever dude. This is kind of becoming a debate over wording and semantics. I don’t like it when it gets to that point.
I’m leaving now.

okay bye have a nice day i hope you decide to take the lsats because you know a whole lot about them (。◕‿◕。)

Maybe I’m not leaving.
Bro, maybe you need to read the conversation. He started the hostility by his accusing me of trolling.
I have 150 posts on CC. Either I really have a lot of time on my hands, or he is just trying to start something.

…i thought it was fairly obvious that i’m a girl LOL

Sorry about the assumption. That just must be my sexism coming out.
