Why do some people have no ambition?

All around me there are kids slacking off, doing drugs, having sex, etc. Why don’t they care about their lives or their futures?

I used to be scared by those television ads warning about drug use and peer pressure until I realized, I won’t do drugs simply because I don’t want to. Ambition is the key.

I’m pretty sure most of them do want to grow up to be rich. It’s just that they aren’t realistic about how to get there–they’re hoping for a one-in-a-billion rags-to-riches miracle, while what they really should do is focus on their education and go into a stable career.

There is no reason for most Americans to work harder in school. America is so rich that you can graduate high school with so-so grades and go to a state college (or community college even) and still earn $40,000 to $60,000 a year. That is decent money and is more than the average income of 90% of the world.

Not everyone knows what they want. And there’s many ways to achieve great things. Some people believe that you can find your future in a pill. You know, if that’s your life-goal, you’ll need to try much harder. Judging from your post, just wondering: Are you sure you want to go to college?
Slacking off means one has no ambition?

I slack off every once in a while and you do too. Everyone needs a little time to unwind every once in a while.

Doing drugs means one has no ambition?

I don’t have any problems with weed. I personally haven’t done it, but I know that it does not addict and is an acceptable substance that is actually legal for medical purposes and legal for whatsoever in other countries. Other drugs, yeah, they’re stupid. Unfortunately, weed is used mostly by jackasses who don’t know when it’s time to work and when it’s time to light up.

Having sex means one has no ambition?

I have sex all the time. It’s a natural part of life; we have *****es and vaginas for a reason. We get horny for a reason. I have safe sex, I use caution, and I enjoy it. I have enough ambition that I could share it with every person on this planet and still have enough to become president of the USA.

Idiots who have unprotected sex have no ambition. They’re simply stupid. However, sex is still natural.

i slack off (as much as i can get away with), drink (moderately), do drugs (only greens…and only in moderation), and dont have sex because i dont have a girlfriend.

and i still plan on being successful.

you’re implying that if someone smokes weed or has sex then they don’t care about their lives or their futures. and that just isn’t true.

This thread isn’t going well…

Asinine assumptions and generalizations don’t go well.

Just because it turns out that nasty stuff your parents did to have you or use of natural substances is done by ambitious intellectuals as well, the thread has gone bad? Broaden your horizons a bit.

How the heck does having sex have ANYTHING AT ALL to do with ambition?

Many, many successful people in the world have children.

You know how babies are made, don’t you?

Don’t expect a CCer to know that.

Just saying, some of the brightest people I know fall into multiple categories listed above. Their plans may be even more elaborate than yours, OP.

If you’re relying upon a commercial put out by the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign for the primary source of your judgment, you might need to go outside more.

Yeah… The things you mentioned does not really have anything to do with ambition. Sure, they could keep you from realizing your ambitions, but that depends on what your ambitions are. If your ambitions are slacking off, doing drugs, and having sex, then you’re fulfilling them to the fullest.

Well good for you. Drugs are bad for you and expensive… Also a dangerous habit. I hope you fulfill whatever your ambitions are anyway.

We’re all dead in at most 80 years, and most jobs will be outsourced in under 20. My scientist parents with phd’s are seriously concerned about foreign competition NOW! Just getting a prestigious degree/alotof schooling isn’t enough anymore. Why worry? Just think about it…what job can be done only by someone who has gone to an elite school? Hmmm?

Edit: And I don’t know how much drugs/alcohol actually hurt anyone…so I can’t comment on that.

I meet many kids who really don’t expect to/ assume they will be alive in ten years.

haha yeah its called drugs/alcohol

not everybody can be super-ambitious (thankfully).

You must be one of those people who rates their success on other’s failures, otherwise you wouldn’t care what other people do with their time

Unless you want to be a doctor, lawyer, scientist, or engineer, then college isn’t all that hard and you don’t have to do PERFRCT at it.
