i gt into wharton…and am pretty grounded…but am sick and tired of ppl automatically lookin at u as high nose snott…just because you got into an ivy league…it ****es me off that ppl who say “judge ones character…not school” are also quick to call students who attend ivy leagues…“arrogant…snotty…having superior complex” seriously if u dont attend one of these schools you ought to check ur opinion…(its rather belittling to pple who actaully worked really hard to get to their school of choice)…cuz not everyone in an ivy league are like that…just like how not everyone in non-ivy league schools are “saving graces…humbled…and down to earth…god sent saints”. AND please stop stayin ivy leagues are overrated…if thats the case…why do so many ppl still choose to apply to an ivy league?..and NO not everyone applys because of the name…come on now…am goin to penn…god knows i have heard ppl say i am goin to pennstate…and this comes from some of my teachers and ppl of higher education…and dont even ask about “wharton”…so no its not only name…its ok to present a logical argument against ivy leagues…but just dont criticize because they ARE ivy leagues and u did NOT get in…that would be the folly of mankind.

oooh i agree…the Penn/PennState thing KILLS me…i hate when people do that…and i dont even go there!!!

our #3 from last year went to University of Penn, and a lot of people still think he went to Penn State which is incredibly discrediting

You will come across ignorant people for the rest of your life.

People automatically assume that I got into Wharton because I am a urm.
You just have to realize that it doesn’t matter what other people think.

you got in for yourself dude don’t let it bother you, i feel the same way

that’s why you have a middle finger my friend.

use it often and well

^Me no speak english?

BLAAKFIRE talks about not being pretentious , but his location is “Wharton 2011.” Why not “Penn 2011” or something about the whole school and not one college in it? People have “Penn SEAS” and stuff like that. Why not “Penn Wharton?” I dislike people who say that they go to Wharton and not Penn with a passion (not saying that BLAAKFIRE is one). Those kids give the Ivy League a bad name, but I think they are mostly concentrated in HYP.

im not surprised that he cant speak english, if hes going to upenn…

(being sartastic)

People who go to these schools are not going to say they are arrogant…snotty… and have a superior complex.

You can’t judge yourself.

lol i cant believe any one would criticize english on an internet board…and you would have to forgive me for leaving my location as wharton 11’…i assure you venkat89 its really all out of humor…i am proud of goin to penn…and i would never deny that…and collegebound when u say “these schools” are u refering to ivy leagues…because if you are then your assertion comes short considering the fact that barely anyone going to whatever school would call themselves snotty or arrogant…

Eh, I think it’s a sad fact. I’m just lurking on the Penn board because my friend was deferred from Huntsman ED and I wanted to who got accepted.

I think you may have answered your question… some people are bitter! Ivies have a certain stigma that accompanies their prestige. Personally, I’m so incredibly tired of all the “Ivies suck” articles and opinions. Some people hate Ivies based on principle rather than for any real reason. It’s kind of like my friend who hates Harry Potter, but has never read a single book or seen a movie. She just hates it because it’s Harry Potter. It’s pure idiocy. Sure, just because something is popular and well-respected and perhaps overhyped doesn’t mean that it immediately deserves scorn!

I feel like the scorn thing is something that we’ll have to get used to, sadly.

Just an anecdote. The other day in class, this loser football player in my AP Euro class was *****ing about his grade in the class. He’s a second semester senior, so I just said, “It doesn’t matter!” And he decided to say, “Just because you got into Harvard doesn’t mean your better than everyone else.”

… I have no words. I just wanted to hurt him.

lingbo thats is very true…and to continue on what u were saying…i think whatever anyone who goes to or went to an ivy league does or sez is looked on with a whole new light…somewhat threatening light…if sum1 who did not get into harvard sed what you sed, the football player would not have answered likewise…but like u sed ivy leagues and those that attend them do carry a certain stigma with them…and am not even attending PENN yet and am feelin it lol…kind of interesting

they’re all haters, guys.

just put on ya hata blockaz and keep it real ;)

most ppl criticize cuz they can’t get in or they tried nd they were rejected. but, i also know of ppl criticizing cuz they can’t afford it. so, basically everything tht makes the ivies so great is also y ppl hate them.
i, myself, will not criticize if i don’t make it or if i can’t afford it cuz tht would make me a hypocrite. i will b bitter though.

yea its ok to be bitter personally but not to the extend of hating the ivys and everyone dat has sumtin to do wit them lol

It really bugs me when people hit on the whole “Why do you say you go to Wharton instead of Penn?” thing. If people go to Wharton, they can say they go to Wharton. Do they not? It’s like people constantly remind Whartonites to add “Penn/UPenn” in order for them to somehow not be arrogant. Saying you go to Wharton is not arrogant. Getting mad at people otherwise is probably indicative of you being a hypercompetitive tool. Am I arrogant for saying I go to Penn instead of saying “A school in Philadelphia” or something similar? If you have a problem with how people word it, then it’s probably a complex on your end.

This reminds me of this kid who would always say he went to “A school in New Haven” because people called him arrogant for saying “Yale,” but then he started to be accused of arrogance again because by him NOT mentioning Yale “he knew he attended a good school and was hiding it because he knew it would make others feel inferior, therefore he knew he was better than everyone else.”

Give me a break. With some folks, you just can’t win.

Whatever you attend, you can say you attend it. People who make such negative assumptions about students based on where they get accepted to, where they attend, or how they refer to said schools, etc, really get on my nerves. If they’re arrogant about things, then yes, they’re arrogant. But just going by the aforementioned statements is insufficient and, well, toolish.

I agree, but I do get how some people who go to the college or SEAS would get annoyed if people say they go to wharton with an arrogant intention, as in I dont go to the inferior UPenn (which is untrue)

Thing is most people who say “I go to Wharton” get nailed by non-Whartonites even if their declaration wasn’t with arrogant intent. The only people who tend to say there is a College/Wharton rift are people with complexes.

it’s a preference marcus
