Why do some ppl who did not get into ivy leagues criticize them so harshly?

oh yea thats very true and i think i hit on that point somewhere after i posted my original post…but the title is simply pointing out a reoccurrence…i assure you it does not have any underlying meaning and it definetly does not tag anyone as “dumb” and when u say “only” it limits the group i am trying to point out. when i say “some ppl” i meant all ppl who criticize ivy leagues and those who gt in, out of hate and baseless assumptions…i do admit by saying “who did not get” it seems as if i am only talking about those that applied and gt rejected. and for that i am at fault lol…but i really did mean ppl who both applied and did not apply…wider spectrum lol

First of all, what does it matter what the Ivies’ “reps” are? How could that possibly give anyone grounds to make specific criticisms about a single individual? It’s just ridiculous. Ivy League schools have their weaknesses, yes, but for the most part, they are few and far between. From my personal experience, any slanderous criticism that people offer up about the Ivies is largely unfounded. They don’t do it because they are well-informed. They may be bitter, but more than likely, they just immediately go to the traditional Ivy League stereotype: the rich kid with the popped collar who’s got his Dad’s credit card in his back pocket, which is again ridiculous. It’s not necessarily bitterness. More like ignorance. Ignorance and complete insensitivity to the people who genuinely want to attend an Ivy League institution.

here here ballplayer well said

This is a related thread I had a loooong time ago:

^^there’s a lot of good parental discussion in there

BallPlayer makes a very good point.

Hey, I think it goes both ways too.

I get criticized for “selling myself short” by choosing to go to my state university, when there are probably just as smart/smarter people there as me.

Some people belong at different colleges, just the way it goes.

By the way, I never think of ivy as stereotypical “rich snobs.” Obviously there are rich people there, but I would actually see ivy students as more of the “liberal, reading-all-day, geeky type.” Probably wrong, but better than a snob!
