I’ve been on FB since 2009. I opened an Instagram page years ago but never use it. I just don’t like posting the same thing 2 different places. I know a lot of people I know do Instagram more, so why? I wonder sometimes if I should switch over.
I have both accounts. I peruse Instagram but don’t post that much. I don’t post on FB much at all, which seems to be the direction that app is headed. Even chronic over-sharers on FB have gone quiet.
You can change your settings to post pictures on both FB & Insta at the same time, so you don’t have to do multiple postings.
ETA: Instagram has also turned into a huge marketing/selling vehicle for products, which is well fed by the influencers - so that makes it more popular.
I am in my 50s and yes I still use facebook. I upload photos and keep in touch with family and friends that way. I work a full time job and 2 part time jobs (1 only being 4 times a year) and have 3 adult kids (2 in college). I am an extrovert yet also a hermit who stays at home most of the time because I am physically and mentally tapped out after working in healthcare full time (and I talk almost all day at work).
I use instagram more sporadically for personal use but I do have a work instagram of sorts (where I post nursing and healthcare related content for my students).
My kids actually do not post much on social media. My oldest and I communicate via snapchat a lot (as that is his preferred app). My younger 2 share stories and rare updates on instagram. My youngest and I will send tik toks to each other for fun. And I watch my middle kids linked in (as he graduates college this year).
I never knew you could do that? I think my only hesitancy is that I’d be spending more time checking out my posts on both.
I have accounts on both, but my Instagram account is only for keeping up with my former students … who use Instagram for their professional information. Oh, and to follow some small businesses. Facebook is cluttered with useless ads and “suggested for you” nonsense. However, it’s still a decent vehicle for keeping up with relatives and the local comedy scene. I rarely post anything.
I’ve avoided this problem by only posting on CC. ![]()
I only started an Instagram account to monitor my then teenager. I never use it any more and just am on Facebook.
I have a Facebook account which I use primarily as a vehicle to have some contact with far-flung cousins (see other post LOL) as well as a few long time friends I don’t see IRL. I post on Facebook infrequently and check only occasionally.
I only opened an Instagram account to monitor what my middle/high schoolers were posting back in the day (which was almost nothing). And then, I liked some of the filters on Instagram, so I’d edit pictures there and post so that they would also show up on FB.
But I’ve stopped doing that – I only post on FB now, and even then, it’s mostly to share stuff about what my kids are up to for family that doesn’t live close. (When they were little, I’d post our hilarious conversation snippets all year on FB, then compile them to include with our Christmas card, lol. Out of the mouths of babes type things. Alas, they’re not as funny as grown humans.
)
BUT, I’m on Instagram all the time (never post) for two reasons – to follow people who post about books or recipes!
I have both but I rarely post anything. The only reason I still have a facebook account is because they don’t make it easy to download in bulk the photos you want to keep. I follow dogs on instagram. That’s pretty much it. I find the dogs are better for my mental health. ![]()
I have both, but almost always only use FB and peruse IG. I use FB because it gives me a clean space where I can connect with my family, who are scattered worldwide. We share photos, travel journals, birthday and other celebrations, and sadly, sometimes death notices. I’ve watched my cousins children, and my nephews, grow up on FB. IG, to me, feels more like “fast fashion” get in, get out. I like to scroll through IG.
I mostly go on Instagram. It seems like lately when I go on Facebook I see a bunch of stuff I don’t care to see. I post on Instagram and then it automatically posts on Facebook. I like Instagram because it is mostly photos and videos.
I also have both FB and Instagram, but I like Instagram more. If I post on Instagram it also goes to FB automatically.
My niece lives in Spain, and I like seeing what she is up to. She only posts on Facebook stories, so I probably miss a lot (they disappear after a day or two). It looks like she has a BF that she is very serious about. Her sister is the one who doesn’t let their dad see me. I kind of hope she gets married in Spain & that I’m invited. H doesn’t like to travel, but I bet he’d go if we’re invited to a wedding in Spain. If not, I would go by myself. ![]()
Many Millennials/Gen Z/Gen Alpha primarily post to “stories”, on various apps so the posts disappear after a certain time. Snapchat is also popular with them.
To some, FB is considered “Boomer” now ![]()
I also don’t like all the “suggested for you” stuff on FB and also Instagram now. I’ve migrated over to TikTok. I’m not looking to be a creator, but I like watching the content.
Was never on FB, during covid decided to join IG. I post a few times a year usually to stories. I don’t spend much time on it but do enjoy pics from my friends and family.
I do a lot of FB. I have IG account, only look at IG links I see in FB. Sometimes I get IG invites, which I worry are scam.
When posting on FB, I am really never sure what stuff will stay or disappear. I do notice that when I post a memory, a lot of people seem to see it and comment.
I’ve been on FB pretty much since adults (not just college students) could join. I can’t recall when that was…2008? 2009? I read it daily and sometimes post on it too. I originally joined it because parents I had met here on CC in one of my then college applicant’s daughters interest areas started a private FB group where we shared things connected to our kids in that industry. For many years, most of my FB “friends” were from that group, though then it became a wider set of FB friends. Also, on FB, I belong to some professional groups in my field (college counseling) and communicate daily in those groups which allow me to connect with others doing what I do for work and it is very beneficial. I rarely read CC any longer and am now active in some parent groups that migrated over there. I think in recent years, FB has been more for my generation and that the younger generations have switched to IG. That’s my observation.
I read IG but I do not post there myself. For a while, I would mostly read posts by friends of my daughter’s who are in her field. But more recently, (not sure why I did not notice this for a long time), I see when I open IG, there are a slew of videos from people whom I don’t know and it is like a form of entertainment. It is also a world I didn’t fully realize existed before with all these influencers making money on IG. And when I click on those videos, more and more come up that may be of a similar type. In the last few days, I have enjoyed the many comedic sketches impersonating Katie Zachariah. Many have been hilarious. FB is more of a thing where I am just reading posts by people I know and it is not any of that influencer stuff.
Ha ha! Me too
I’ve never had a Facebook or Instagram account, and I never plan to. I just can’t see the draw of either platform.
And of course, I just don’t like or trust Zuck.
I never joined fb, I created an IG account to follow quilters I like and see what my kids occasionally post. I rarely post myself, have shared a few of my quilting projects.
