Why is this a thread?

@jym626 --I’m going to pull OP rank and plead for this not to turn into a thread for dissing real threads. You can always start another thread for that purpose. This is parody. We got enough actual grumbling going on elsewhere, right?

Oh well. I just scrolled up and see I made the same plea earlier this year. I give up.

Should Helicopter parents chip their offspring so they can monitor their location 24/7?

Should I start this as a business plan??

our new puppy has a chip

See… Someone already had the same bp idea. They are already testing it on dogs and cats…

Sorry-- was conofused… Starting back in post #9 on pg one, this was about real , but silly, threads. Didnt notice request-- was responding to the title. Parody is fine.

I cannot roll my 'R’s… can I get into an Ivy?

You can only get into Penn & Yale.

Should my daughter feel insulted if someone calls her ma’am, but doesn’t pronounce the apostrophe in the middle?

That’s not true; you can get into Harvard if you pronounce it like a proper Massholian: Hah-VAHD. No r’s were harmed.

^lol. Well, no R’s in Columbia, either.

Though to be fair, its whole name is “Columbia University in the City of New Yawk.”

Yeah, but if you’re from MA, you pronounce it “Co-LUM-bee-yer”, and there’s your R.

That’s why we didn’t name either of our kids Lydia; it turns into “Liddie-yer” with a Boston/South Shore accent.

^are either of them boys, @MotherOfDragons

@2muchquan you kill me!!! I wrestled with the gender-neutral name, since both H and I have gender neutral names and it comes in very handy when one of us has to pretend to be the other (I’m talking to you, Comcast).

In the end we went with girl names that didn’t sound like strippers or jewelry companies.

I’m ridiculously smart and have excelled in everything I’ve done since birth but I need help deciding among Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Penn, Brown, Cornell, Stanford, and MIT. Thanks in advance.

@MotherOfDragons

Great idea for a ‘Why is This a Thread?’ thread! Stripper names to not name your daughter.

@GMTplus7 I’m not even going to go there, because there are a lot of lovely, bright young women with unfortunate names because their parents were nincompoops.

I gave my D a male stripper name.

I have a colleague (PhD, tenured professor) who has as ordinary and plain of a firstname+lastname combination as you can imagine…but if you google it, the first score of hits are for a porn star who took that as her stage name.
