<p>Why would the application require you to estimate your relocation expenses and medical expenses? The U. requires an outside medical policy to enroll but the student health service is available to all students. Would they decide against someone who has high expenses and couldn’t afford to live on whatever grant support they offer, or would they offer them more money if they wanted them?</p>

They have some endowed graduate fellowships that are meant to help very specific populations of graduate students; hence all of the questions about your life history and any extraordinary expenses. Please note that the fellowship section of the application is optional, and you are free to omit it if you are concerned about how that information might be used. </p>
