Will a B reject me from UVA - Sophomore

Hi guys,

For context, I have a B+ is AP precalc. I’m pretty dissapointed I ended the year with this grade since it wasn’t that hard. Just my study habits and sometimes my mental slipping that resulted in a couple bad tests. I’m going into CS and I understand that doing bad in math may look bad for colleges. Also I could very much see many other applicants having a’s in this class which puts them ahead. My weighted gpa is 4.3 and uw is 4.0 so I’m scared it might fall behind with my peers after the course. Since I’m doing calc ab next yr, I’m planning to really priortize it and ensure I get A. Will colleges like this improvement or would it not matter that much. I’m pretty new to the process and how competitive this colleges actually are so sorry if the question is dumb.

Thanks again,

Please don’t worry about one B+ grade.

Thanks. It’s jsut an annoying feeling that you could have done more, but didn’t. Appreciate the reply.

Don’t worry about one B, but also know that UVA is very competitive, so you will need mostly As and a lot of AP and honors classes to get accepted. 4.5w/3.9uw/33ACT child was rejected (but is out of state).

Are you in state?

Focus on doing your reasonable best to close out this year and junior year, and you can assess where you are competitive for college admissions as you are entering your senior year.

Then, I think you are okay. My OOS son got in with one dink from AP Lang (he is highly ranked otherwise). Make sure that you are getting in some community service that you can talk about in your essays-doesn’t have to be heavy hours-but should be consistent. Almost every college app will ask you to write about this.

Also, make sure that you apply to a broad range of schools-i.e. don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.
