Will I fit in at UNC?

I have chosen to go to UNC Chapel Hill. I was debating between UNC and USC and chose UNC because it was more prestigious, in-state, and better for my major (pre-law).

However, I'm kind of afraid that I will not fit in. I am very girly and very preppy... like Polo and Vineyard Vines wearing girl. I am EXTREMELY outgoing and I love to party and be social... I've been told that UNC isn't a good party school (and although I know its not ECU party level, I am hoping for a really good social atmosphere). I am a very southern girl... I love country music, tailgating, and barbecue haha. I am afraid that UNC Kent a very southern school (one reason why I loved USC). and Also, I know that UNC is notoriously liberal... I am a staunch conservative. I have already looked into joining UNC College Republicans but I have been told that I will turn liberal. Is it difficult to hold into conservative beliefs at Chapel Hill? And will my professors (who I'm assuming will be predominantly liberal) judge me/ attack my grade for disagreeing with their views?

Anyone who could list and help me with my questions would be great appreciated. Thanks y'all!

I don't know much about how much you'll fit in, but if you truly believe what it is that you believe, it won't matter how liberal an institution is (influence-wise). Also, change is necessary... I don't see why you wouldn't want to learn more and evolve in college....

Just do not wear a Duke shirt and you should be fine :)

haaayanna, I don't deal all that well with change but I'm going to really try and not freak out too much! And in terms of liberalism at the school, I think my #1 fear is just that my professors will grade me poorly if I don't agree with them... that's happened to a few of my friends :/

Blitz95... I had one Duke shirt and as soon as I got my acceptance, I had a bonfire and burned it! So that won't be a problem.

I don't think you will have any problem fitting in, trust me. A school may seem unfit at first but once you adjust to the school (in about 1-2 semesters or a few quarters, I guess), you will find more people like you and likely different others, as well.

Ok, so I'm a junior at UNC, and I can guarantee that you'll do just fine here in the greek crowd. They fit the description that you've described, and if you're looking to surround yourself with people like that, consider living at Granville Towers or joining a sorority pretty quickly. While a good deal of the campus is liberal, you won't be in a minority, so no worries.

I agree with luke the last time I was at Chapel Hill preppy was IT.

Plus the BBQ in NC is kick azz. USC BBQ? I doubt it, more like sushi and humus.

Oh and by the way stay grounded on your beliefs dont allow anyone to BS you.

You will love UNC and it will love you.

wow i lived next to unc for the first half of my life and didnt know it was a liberal hippy infested place. i thought everyone who went there fit your profile

Thanks so much you guys, y'all are making me feel WAYYY more confident in my choice!

marry me. #vvforlyfe

WizKhalifa1, hahahaha. Thanks for making my day :)
