Hey this has been bothering me for awhile and i figured i would ask

I live in Canada and plan on going to College for art ( want to become a video game artist) i get fairly medium grades, always very high in arts and computer design but quite low in English, we have the choice of University or college level English and i am currently in university level but got 55% on my mid term. the teacher recommends i take the college level English for grade 12 ( which i can see myself scoring pretty high in) but the problem is that English scores seem to be such a big deal when applying , i can speak perfectly and am pretty good with grammar etc but have a very hard time with essay writing which is what holds me back. So do you guys think this will be a big deal when applying for an arts course?
thanks~

Depends what school you are applying to. By “going to college” do you mean university (ie 4 year degree granting institution- This includes places like The Ontario College of Art and Design, despite the name)? If so then which one? You will have to check the prerequisites for whatever university you apply too, but as a rule of thumb universities want university level credits, ie. EVERY department I have seen at UofToronto demands a university level English (admittedly it has been a few years since I have checked this so it may be out of date, but I doubt it).

If by “college”, you mean community college (2 year, diploma granting), then they are generally OK with college level courses.

Ether way you should first check the websites of the universities you are interested in and look specifically at what the requirements are for the program you are interested in. If they say a college level course is fine, then feel free to transfer. If they require a university level credit, then there isn’t really a point to transferring.
