Hi guys, I will be an upcoming junior in high school in the fall and I'm kind of worried about my GPA & class rank. In my school we have this tracking system that works as follows: Track 1 (honors-highest), Track 2, Track 3, Track 4 (LOWEST), and Track 5 (AP--only applies to juniors and seniors). So beginning of my high school career, I was placed in Track 2 for all my classes. Countless times I tried to ask my teachers if I could move up and they told me no. So eventually, I got tired of asking and figured I could bring up my GPA and class rank within the next 3 years. Freshmen year I was rank 49 out of 250, and now after sophomore yr, I am ranked 24 out of 200. (13 current, cumulative 24). In general, my school's tracking system sucks and totally messed up everything. Sophomore yr I was not able to take honors alg/geo and honors bio because I was not in honors math freshmen year. Now, what I'm planning to do is take all the AP's I can and take a alg II summer course so I can be in precalc this fall. BUT, my school only offers 6 AP courses-- AP Italian, AP Art, AP Gov & Politics, AP English, APUSH, AP Calc. Out of all those I'll be taking only 4. If I take more classes at a local CC, would that bring my GPA as well as class rank up or no? I have high hopes of becoming a dermatologist or pediatrician and plan on going to medical school, but I feel like I'm so behind -___- Any advice would be appreciated guys! and I'm sorry this was so long to read!!

Most important advice - WRITE IN PARAGRAPHS

Second most important advice - "If I take more classes at a local CC, would that bring my GPA as well as class rank up no?" You just answered your own question. We don't know how your grading system works, so go ask your counselor.

shorten this and i'll read it..promise

It depends on how your school ranks CC courses.
Other than that, all we can do is advise you to try your best, and do the best you can.(Yes this is redundant).

"BUT, my school only offers 6 AP courses-- AP Italian..."

does not exist

I said, If I take more classes at a local CC, would that bring my GPA as well as class rank up OR no?
AP Italian does exist in my school, thank you. I go to a catholic school so that might be the reason why you're not familiar with it.
@futurexecutive basically my question is, will taking classes at a local CC help me raise my GPA?

"AP Italian does exist in my school, thank you. I go to a catholic school so that might be the reason why you're not familiar with it."

i also go to a catholic school, and the AP italian course was discontinued by the college board

Oh well I was not aware of that. My school did not inform us with that information at all.

I feel that even if you take AP classes, it will help ur weighed gpa but not ur unweighed gpa...i mean, it would be great if you take normal classes, besides the APs u are already taking and make sure you can manage to raise that unweighed gpa real high...class rank isn't all that but you should try to get into Top 10% =)

You should ask your counselor.

Hahaha they offer AP Italian even though its not an AP class anymore. What a scam.
