Will UPenn Rescind my Acceptance? [schedule change]

I have applied ED to UPenn, and they have announced yesterday that they will be releasing decisions next Thursday (really late ik). I have asked my counselor not to send my MP1 grades because I dropped BC to AB and have an A- in all my classes and a B in AP Physics and today I confirmed with her that she didn’t send them but she misread my email and sent my grades. Im really stressed out and nervous about this because some competitive kids applied and my EC’s were my advantage. The email said to not send further updates to Penn because their admissions decisions closed and I called Penn admissions and they said that the applications are locked in and they wont be changing decisions anymore. Im still nervous and worried if the grades being sent may change my chances as they haven’t announced them yet. Perhaps they see the grades sent and go back in and change my decision. Could this happen?

If these grades/class change cause a rejection then it is quite possible they could cause any acceptance to be rescinded. You should have consulted with Penn admissions officer BEFORE dropping a level down in math – at the very least you needed to notify. And hiding grades is not the way to go.

Now, you need to let every college you applied to know that you dropped a level in math. Any college you choose to attend will require a final HS transcript and will see any discrepancies between classes listed and classes completed.

Don’t stress yourself out. It’s only days before Penn releases their decisions. I highly doubt if they would bother to cross check your application. You are one in thousands that they received. Just be ready to get their decision next week. Good luck.

Better to tell them now about your schedule change, since they will not like to get surprised next summer when they get your final high school transcript.

Echoing @happy1 so this doesn’t get lost. If you are accepted (good luck!), you need to notify them about the class change - they will figure it out and better to deal with it honestly and transparently. If you’re deferred and for all other schools where you might have already submitted an application, you need to do the same. It is much much better to do it before the school finds out via transcript or otherwise.

I dont think dropping calc BC to AB would cause me to be rejected, since it was stated on my initial but for all RD it will show anyways. If they do see descrpencies they will know that I dropped as many students do drop from BC to AB

A friend’s daughter who was accepted ED at a somewhat less competitive school was told that if she dropped a level in math her acceptance would be “reevaluated.” She got extra help and stayed in the class so her ED acceptance would not be jeopardized. So YMMV. Best to be upfront.

Like dropping a math class altogether or dropping from a higher level to a lower level? Did she ask the admissions office about this or did they tell her before she would drop? This is really scary and helpful to know, thank you for letting me know.

She considered dropping down a level in calculus. She contacted admissions before making the change and based on the discussion she decided to stay in the class. She did not want to jeopardize her ED acceptance. Of course we will never know what would have happened to the acceptance if she chose to drop down a level.

you have a tiny likelihood of acceptance. Why stress, If it happens great but most likely it wont even in the best of circumstances.

As someone who does not know me in anyway, whatever. This applies for the general population but never say that to anyone person as you never know what their chances are

If you don’t get in and statistically you won’t, you’ll never know why.

It’s why you have a balanced list.

As someone who knows a lot more about admissions, being accepted to much more competitive programs, that is non of your concern. I am asking if they will review grades after being accepted. Answer the question and move on with your life

Thanks. Im not sure if they will look at my ED grades since my counselor mistankly sent them. I called the AO and they said the decisions are locked, but part of me still believes they can download and see the grades. I wish she did not send them

You asked them. They gave you the answer.

No need to be rude.

They did not answer my question at all.

I can call the admissions office and ask if dropping a level in math is need to get letter rescinded

I didn’t. They did. You said they told you no.

They will want to ensure you finish the year strong.

Yes that can happen. The biggest issue is that you changed your 12th grade courses and it sounds like you didn’t notify the school. This can impact the admissions decision, as could the grades. We don’t know if either will impact the decision though.

You do need to report the course schedule change to any other schools that you already have applied to (via the portal or email to AO), as well as any schools you have already been accepted to. If you aren’t accepted to Penn, change your common app to reflect your correct 12th grade courses so any RD apps are correct. Good luck.

Do not do this. One of the common app affirmations is that you have to notify schools of any changes to your app…the applicant doesn’t get to decide what change may or may not be material.

I agree to notify the institutions to which I am applying immediately should there be any change to the information requested in this application.

My kid dropped a level in math and got into a school more competitive than Penn. Your ECs may be what distinguish you and you may just be stronger in humanities. Colleges recognize that students have different areas of talent and commitment and a school like Penn looks at the whole picture. Don’t stress.
