Will you buy an electric or hybrid car next?

There’s at least a dozen of them parked at our local mall and I have now seem a couple being driven in the area by people who have taken delivery. Yeah, looks exactly like the pics though from my POV a little smaller up close than expected. It’s weird, because it’s hard to get a sense for its size until you’re standing right next to it. Not that it’s small, just that its smaller than it seemed from early images and videos and made it seem huge.

The Ford Maverick looks small when compared to other pickups today, which are larger than in the past. From 2022 Ford Maverick vs Ranger and F-150 size comparison: How big is it? - Autoblog

However, a length of 199.7" and height of 68.7" is not exactly small, since that is longer and taller than many common cars like the Toyota Camry.

The inside of the Maverick XLT cab doesn’t appear any smaller inside to me (and in fact seems larger) than other small trucks like the Ranger, but the bed is small. Not sure if this is standard or just came with our configuration but it has all sorts of sliding hook up areas in the bed - very easy to tie down your load with bungies, etc.

It’s small, but perfect for someone like us that won’t be hauling lots of stuff but find it convenient to have. We actually took it on our beach trip a few weeks ago, we put our weekender bags and food in plastic tubs and stuck them in the bed of the truck so the cab was not crowded.

That’s exactly what DH wants. He has a Volvo wagon now, but thinks the Maverick will be better.

My first husband had a lemon yellow Comet (1973) which I think was the same as the Maverick and my favorite car at that time was the Toyota Celica! It was so awesome and Japanese cars in the US were still kind of a novelty, but that Celica was beautiful. Always wanted one but my folks got me '69 Malibu Chevelle. Apparently a very hot car - never was sure if they really wanted to date me or drive my car.

Sorry, I was referring to the Cybertruck when I said there were dozen parked at the local mall and it was smaller than I expected un close.

Oh my goodness, that Cybertruck is hideous! I was next to one in traffic the other day and couldn’t believe it really looks like that.

I’m not a fan, but da’ wife loves it. (still not gonna get one!)

I’d definitely take this hybrid if someone wants to buy me one.
0-62mph = 2 sec.

0-248mph = <25 sec.

I am not in the market for a car, but these (the ones with hatchback) would be my choice. Hybrid preferred for now, but if there were nearby fast charging options, electric sounds good. I saw a Chevy Bolt parked on my block–looks good! At least American cars are put together to last, unlike in the late 60s/early 70s when they definitely were not. (I realize that just because it’s called “Chevy” doesn’t mean it was fully manufactured and assembled in the US.)

If you ordered a Cyber Truck, then you may have to wait a little longer.

I’m getting close to buying a new PHEV and need it this month. But here in my fly-over-rectangular-state-in-the-middle, such cars are hard to find. Kia Niro PHEV high trim level: one in the state, 2.5 hours away; RAV4 Prime: one in the state fully loaded with every option $$$$ 1.5 hours away; Hyundai Tucson PHEV: none in the state; Toyota Prius Prime: none in the state. I will test drive the Ford Escape - the dealer has eight; and for fun - a Tesla Model Y. The Kia dealer says they’ll meet me halfway for a test drive so that’s something.

Not a fan of Musk, but vandalism is disgusting.

Parked behind a tank at a local store.

Ugly and complete with paw prints all over the driver’s side door.

We ordered 2 new cars from Carsdirect.com online back in early 2000s and you build your car online and they find it somewhere in the country the way you ordered it and it is delivered to a local car dealer that will be your home dealer. The transfer cost from across the country (don’t recall where it came from) was still covered by the savings of ordering the car through them. Now there are lots of online car buying services, I don’t know if they find the cars and deliver them or just build them and deliver them but it might be worth a shot to check them out and see if pricing and delivery with your trim level works out.

We had the same problem back in February and ended up with the Escape. I actually, kind of unexpectedly, love the car. It gets the advertised mileage. I like it better than my Forester, and I loved my Forester.
