Will you buy an electric or hybrid car next?

When the time comes, we will likely be looking at a Toyota-made car. We’ve been a loyal Toyota family but deviated from our loyalty when my husband decided to support a struggling EV automaker back in 2017.

Apparently, the new Bolt is coming soon. Very cute looking.

I bought an equinox EV last month. Slightly larger than the bolt. Overall very happy.

Installed a level 2 charger that should be reimbursed by my electric company. If it wasn’t for easy home charging, an ev is not yet practical.

I also expect things won’t go smoothly on road trips, but I’ll get to the destination. We have a second car for times the EV won’t work.

The linked page has photos of the discontinued Bolts from 2022-2023, and a video of some GM vehicles with one under a car cover that is speculated to be the upcoming Bolt.

The Equinox EV is more than “slightly” larger, since it is 21" longer and 7" wider than the Bolt EUV (the slightly larger version of the Bolt). It is relatively inexpensive if you want an EV of that size, starting at $35k ($37k if you want heated seats).

There are pics presumably of the new “base” one elsewhere. The look is similar. Not sure if the pictures are real, but the old one is cute, and I expect the new one will be similarly cute.

The “2026 Bolt photos” that I have seen look like photo-edited photos of the 2022-2023 Bolt. It is known that it will be based on the 2022-2023 Bolt EUV, but with a newer generation of battery and fast charging.

Comparing the CyberDumpster to a Ford Pinto is never a good thing.

Good luck. I look forward to hearing what you find.

I wondered about replacing our old minivan with a Toyota hybrid minivan or hybrid SUV. New ones are really out of our budget.

We still have many people or items to haul. Even looked at a pick up truck.

Recently decided on used gas Pacifica with stow and go seats. Pleased with how easy it is to use.

Can’t stow seats in used hybrid Pacifica.

Toyota is not good for EVs. I don’t know what happened with them but they seem to be way behind the curve or worse. Toyota says it would rather buy credits than ‘waste’ money on EVs | Electrek

Toyota has concentrated on the hybrid market, and they have this well crafted, in my opinion.

I rented a new Pacifica this past week and the seats fold way down. It was lovely driving a car with all the options. It was hybrid but I only used gas.

Tesla recalls 376,000 vehicles in US over power steering

Besides power steering…

The comments on the article are not all warm and fuzzy.

Switch from a Tesla S to a BMW EV. The S was fun to drive, but the car was not well manufactured in terms of fit. Lots of rattles. I think they crammed so much battery in the car that they had to save weight elsewhere. The BMW feels like a proper luxury sedan. Range is not as good, but I can easily charge at home with the Tesla L2 charger with adapter.

There is a paywall on this article. Just FYI.

Here is one without a paywall.

It’s all over the news today.

More directly from the source (rather than through yahoo.com), including a video on the subject showing how the panels are glued on, but not always properly:
Tesla Cybertruck Body Panels Are Flying Off While Driving, And This Wrap Shop Owner Figured Out Why

The Cybertruck pieces falling off is not fixable by a software update, unlike several Tesla recalls including the power steering one.

The power steering recall for many 2023 Model 3 and Y is described at https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCLRPT-25V092-6812.PDF . A software update in October 2023 remedied the problem, but Tesla only announced a recall after a non-US regulator opened an inquiry. By now, 99% of affected vehicles have gotten a software update with the remedy. Loss of power assist does not prevent the car from being steered manually, although that will require greater strength on the part of the driver.
