What they actually said was for each person who comes in to the store, you can only order one phone. I will try and order all 4 at once online. My backup plan is 1 from ATT and 1 from Apple and then the other 2 for the next round. I probably don’t need to upgrade the kids, but I have this fantasy that they will video me from time to time!

I am the only iPhone owner in my family; my husband and kids all have a Blackberry. That said, guess what phone they all use when we are together? More times than not one of them has my phone to check Facebook, sports scores, or downloading an app. I really wish they would get their own iPhone and leave mine alone :)

I’m ordering mine directly from Verizon early in the am, online. My web searching dug up that when the iPhone 4 came out, some people received the phones at their homes a day or so earlier than the release date.

Well, I am officially crazy! I woke up this morning and ordered my phone. I was not able to get through until 3:45 EST, after trying for about 30 minutes. I always get up once or twice during the night; don’t sleep as well as I did before menopause
so I decide to take advantage of being awake!

I had Apple’s page as well as AT&T’s up; I was able to get through on Apple first. As I already have an Apple ID, it really only took a minute or so to finish the process. As I understand from others that have preordered, my phone will arrive on the 14th and some got theirs the day before with the last preorder. The order did show the package has to be signed for and it is coming to my house, so I hope I am home when it comes; otherwise I will have to go pick it up the next day. I haven’t figured out if it is coming UPS or Fedex, but will find out. My UPS guy leaves everything at the door even it it requires a signature.

I ordered this morning. The only pain was that I was not able to ship it to my business address (even though this is my preferred Apple shipping address). The shipping address defaulted to my home address and couldn’t be edited - I guess because this is my AT&T billing address.

I am upgrading from a iphone 3G and ordered online today from Apple to have phone shipped to me at home. It does require a signature upon delivery, and there will be three attempts to deliver, but the website delivery instructions gave other options (e.g.,signing a paper in advance or signing the delivery attempt notice, and there might have been an option to redirect to a neighbor to sign). This info is likely accessible when you view your “order status” online.

The alternative, to go into the store and wait my turn to pick it up, was not appealing. As I understood it, there should be instructions to activate it at home (but I’ll probably end up at the store anyway with some issue).

DH tried to order online today (AT&T), only to discover that ordering online required him to drop his unlimited data plan. Went to the store for clarification, and guess what? if you order in the store, you don’t have to drop the unlimited data plan. So we ordered through the store. I did have to listen to a ten minute sales spiel trying to get us to upgrade everything. Just kept saying no, and we kept our old contract.

I attended a webinar last night. iPhone 5 not expected until early spring 2013, so go ahead with the 4s!

I got the unlimited data plan online (via the Apple site). It was one of 4 options.

I pre-ordered from Apple this morning, after encountering billing/shipping complications with AT&T. A major upgrade from a 3-year old original iPhone (that was slowly dying). I was able to keep my unlimited data plan. I’m excited. :)

If that is confirmed, it really should not come as a surprise. As the latest upgrade shows, the laws of diminishing return apply to the iPhone. Short of having a better battery, better sound, better cameras, there are very few (if any) features that can be added. After all, it is a PHONE. Of course, they could find a way to make the phone less fragile, but that has never been in Apple’s business plan.

Fwiw, I could upgrade my phone but will stick to the 3G. Well, until the battery dies or until I use the phone in the rain. :)

I was also able to grandfather in my unlimited data without a problem online with Apple. It was the last choice in the row and because we have a family plan, it didn’t ask about my voice minutes or texting. I would assume it just knew to keep that all the same.

I did not see a choice on the delivery instructions, but it was 3:45 in the morning
I will check my status and see if I can alter it. My UPS guy still might leave it out if I leave a signed note; I rarely have Fedex here, so I have no idea what he will do. I should have tried to see if I could change the shipping to my husband’s office, but again it was 3:45 and I don’t remember seeing a way to change that. I would assume they would only ship to your billing address.

I did find on Apple’s Shipping and Delivery page where I can pre-sign for the package once I am sent a shipping confirmation and tracking number. It looks like you can also change the shipping address if you wanted to do that.

Thanks for the heads up on that odyssey!

^^

Great use for the sea of refurbs they will have. Apple probably got tired of seeing all those small shops offering repair and battery services.

On the other hand, why did it take this long to have a decent warranty?

They covered the new AppleCare plan in the webinar. It sounds pretty good. A huge improvement. There will be a $50 charge for the new phone. You can do it twice.

The only way I was able to order from Apple (at 3 am) was to download the Apple store app on my phone. It took a while for me to figure out how to use a credit card that wasn’t associated with our itunes account, but finally it worked. However…there was NO discussion on the site about delivery instructions.

I had to order S2’s on the AT&T site as my phone would only allow an order for my number. I freaked out about the wording for the unlimited data being discontinues, but then I went ahead and turned the page and there was the option for 4S unlimited at $30 month.

H went to the AT&T store and ordered S1’s to be shipped out of state. Looking back…that was a heck of a lot of work for something we really didn’t need!

Yes, in fact, we are so behind in keeping our phones updated that we are probably going to buy as many as three of these.

I was able to change the shipping address today on the Apple website. Thank you for the heads up!

I never wake up in the middle of the night and joked that if I did then I’d order it early. So strangely I woke up at 2:02 CT
Got right onto the Verizon site and ordered my phone. Huzzah!
