Will you buy the iPhone 4s?

I decided not to change my shipping address, but will do the pre-sign so that I can have it come to the house. If I change the shipping to my husband’s office, I will have to go there or what for him to come home! I will only be away from the house for about 2 hours on Friday and it is not during the normal time for UPS to come to my neighborhood. If I find it is going to be delivered by FedEx, I might rethink my day :)

Why is it I said I wasn’t in a rush for the phone, yet here I am willing to reorganize my day to wait on a deliveryman?

My plan is to wait until I see the regular 4 drop way down in price, let D get it, and I’ll get her 3GS hand-me-down. My 3G is working just fine (this week) and D has a new Ipad2 to play with so I’m in no hurry. I don’t have the latest and greatest anything, so why a phone? ;)

Why is it we let our children get the best, and we settle for hand me downs? We do the same in this house more times than I would like to admit. Do you think the kids will do the same for us in our old age; you know, the whole circle of life thing? ;)

I tried to pre-order from the Verizon site. After first telling me I was eligible for a $30 “loyalty” discount, the site wouldn’t allow me to use it. Frustrating! So I will go to a store at some point.

Lurk, you can order straight from Apple and just select Verizon as you carrier.

I still have my first cell phone, which is a slide. It takes pictures, which is occasionally useful. That’s about it.

How much does it cost per month to have a smart phone that can surf the internet and so forth?

I will not buy any smartphone until the phone companies have family shared data line plans.

What does a family shared data line plan mean? I just chatted online with Verizon and AT&T regarding their plans. I’m considering switching over my 3 phones from Sprint to someone else (anyone else, as far as DH is concerned).

Version offered 700 minutes of voice for $70, 2GB data per phone ($30x3) and unlimited text ($30). Voice and text were shared among all 3 phones.

AT&T offered 700 minutes of voice for $70 for 2 phones plus $10 for the 3rd ($70 +$10), 2GB data per phone ($70) and unlimited text ($30).

Both of these are more expensive than my monthly Sprint bill, so I’m hesitating. Sprint has a “coming soon” message on their website regarding iPhone 4S.

Does anyone know how to purchase an iPhone 4 that works on the Sprint network? Do I need to get an unlocked phone? The regular iPhone 4 price is $99, but the unlocked ones seem to be a lot more expensive.

On AT&T you can get an iPhone 3 for free with a new plan.

My D and her husband have to use Sprint because it is the only carrier with reception in the hospital where he works. They ordered iPhone 4 the other night and 4s is also available for order.

I would pay the extra for ATT. Don’t get the 3. Go with at least the 4. You don’t need an unlocked phone.

Staying with my 3GS until: Version 5 comes out OR something absolutely necessitates my upgrade otherwise.

“What does a family shared data line plan mean?”
I have to pay $30 more per phone in order to use a smartphone.
I prefer a plan that allow family member to share data for Web access like sharing voice & text.

Yes we’ve been waiting for this for a while now. D1’s phone doesn’t work(too much texting) and I don’t need one so she took mine. I have my blackberry from work. Now I can have my phone back.

MOWC did your D order her phone on the Sprint site or on the Apple site? I don’t see the iPhone 4 on the Sprint site at all, just the iPhone 4S. If I buy on the Apple site, do I need to buy an unlocked phone to use on Sprint? Why do you prefer AT&T? Just to avoid having to unlock the phone, or is it a better network in general? My DH is so tired of Sprint dropping his calls.

coolweather I think the Sprint plan allows family members to share data. I don’t pay extra for data on the 3rd phone on my plan (as far as I can tell from my bill!) Right now all 3 phones have unlimited data, text and voice.

AT&T is a much better network. Sprint barely works in our HOUSE, and we are in a major metropolitan area. I don’t know where they ordered, but my guess is from Sprint. I’ll find out.

vballmom-When you go to the Sprint site, just click on the link for phones and you will see the 4 and the 4s on the page. The home page only shows the 4s, but the 4 is listed with all the other phones.

You don’t need an unlocked phone, and an unlocked phone will not work on the Sprint network anyway. People that us unlocked phones use them with sim cards while traveling. If you traveled often to another country, you would be able to take your AT&T sim card out and use the card from that country; therefore making your calling cheaper. Sprint and Verizon do not use sim cards, so an unlocked phone will do you no good if you are on either of those networks.

Thanks snowball, I see the phone now, don’t know how I missed it before. And thanks for the additional information about locked vs unlocked.

Sounds like AT&T is the way to go for a number of reasons. DH has calls dropped all the time on Sprint, but I don’t have that problem so it’s hard to know if it’s the network or the phone (we both have the same Palm Pre).

Received my shipping notice from Apple this morning. My iPhone has shipped from China and is currently in Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong according to my tracking! It will be here on Friday; I am not excited or anything ;)

Will the phone work when you get it? Or do you need to take it to Apple or the carrier store to activate it?

you can activate it yourself following instructions online.

My youngest wants to buy the Iphone 4 16g. It is now $149 at ATT and it lists it is a discontinued model. Does this make any sense? She feels she has too much music for the 8gb. I am thinking she should get the $99 4 or save more money and wait till she has enough for the 4s. How much music can one person need.
