William & Mary Class of 2028 Official Thread

Does anyone know what the admission profile is for the class of 2028 (for both the accepted students and waitlisted students)? Was there any information on how many students applied?

I haven’t seen anything yet. I’m a data geek, so am very curious!

Same! I wonder when this information will get released.

Nothing out yet. They will put out something on the WM social once they crunch the numbers. I read the applications were up from last year, but no specifics.

Might be worth emailing admissions to see if they’re able to share offer rates. I’m a little jealous of how UVA has that data out the day before decisions

Does anyone know how/ when the financial aid packages will be released?

My husband took our student to Dfas.
Never visited campus before.
Literally the last school visit and dfas completely sold both of them. Husband said it felt like a private school.

Most people I talk to about colleges think WM is private.

2008 Alum here. Congrats to those who were accepted! As mentioned, the alternative pathways can be just as rewarding. I read some messages inquiring about the app pool data. Last year, this was published by Erin Jay (Senior Associate Director of University News) on April 10th (Link - Following a highly selective admission process, W&M prepares to welcome admitted students to campus – W&M News). Hope that helps to provide some idea of when data might be available.

Thanks for this! My S24 is on the waitlist and getting totally psyched about studying in London, maintaining a 3.0+, and heading to W&M in the spring. His sister, class of '25, is thrilled for him. She has been reaching out to find people on campus who did spring pathways so they can give S24 advice. A lot of kids have had a great experience with it! :uk: :lion: :eagle: :green_heart: :yellow_heart:

Does anyone know what the better dorms are for freshmen?

Lemon is the one everyone wants, but it’s a large dorm and some will say not as social. If you are a Monroe scholar, you will want Monroe. There are two complexes without central ac, but parts are air conditioned. Those are GGV and Botetourt. If you end with those two options, take Botetourt. . The rest are fine. Choose based on preferred location. My son is in Preston and we are very happy with condition and location. Barrett is switching to freshman for next year and would be very nice.

Do you know which dorm is the most social dorm for freshmen?

It will mainly depend on who ends up on your hall. But the smaller dorms and halls tend to generate closer ties. Lemon, Barrett, and Monroe will be the largest.

Do you know how the dorm picking process works? Or are you just randomly assigned a dorm?

Unless they change the system, you will be assigned a lottery time. At your time, you will log in to the housing portal and choose your room from the shown selections.

This is how it works for freshman? Do you have to have picked a roommate ahead of time?

When my daughters were freshmen in 2019 and 2021, they could choose a roommate, or let the school match them based on a brief questionnaire. They both chose to let the school match them and it worked out very well.

As for dorms, in 2021, they let the incoming freshmen list their top dorms and tried to give them one of those.

Hopefully, someone will chime in with more recent experience!

You can list a preference, but I wouldn’t put any stock in that. My son saw none of his preferred dorms either year during the lottery. Everyone tends to pref the same dorms.

This is the info from last year which can give you an idea about the process. New Student Room Selection | William & Mary
