S24 received a cypher postcard today- great timing to lighten things up a bit as we await UVA EA decision this evening.
W&M missed an obvious opportunity to reference the Hitchhikers Guideā¦
Just as long as they make it clear you need to bring a towel to Admitted Students Day . . . .
āA towel, [The Hitchhikerās Guide to the Galaxy] says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-boggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you canāt see it, it canāt see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.ā
Mine did not recv a postcard. Oos last min add to applications
Only saw campus at accepted student day and it was a done deal.
Is there any correlation to receiving one of these postcards and being named a Monroe scholar, I wonder?
The letters tend to go to the higher stats students, so possibly.
I know someone who is a low-stat applicant but he is an athletic recruit and he received a likely letter postcard the other day from W&M. Many colleges send them to athletic recruits.
Are we supposed to respond to the likely letters? I received one a couple of days ago, and was wondering if I should email a thank-you to my admissions officer.
Nothing you need to do, but you certainly could.
I wish they mentioned how many acceptances were given!
Last year about 45% of ED applicants (660 or so students) were accepted. I imagine the number must be about the same this year.
Iām curious to see how many more applications theyāre expecting this year (just a few hundred, or significantly more?)
Yes, they probably will keep the Ed numbers fairly consistent. Iām looking forward to seeing the final application numbers.
Has anyone received 1693 Scholar semi-finalist notifications?
Iāve read on another forum that some have received them.
Yes, my son received an invitation a few weeks ago. second round of the application was due Friday, maybe? Give or take a few days.
S24 received a cypher postcard today!
(Well, probably yesterday, he and Mom are at a winter sports tournament, and I forgot to check the mail.)
So, definitely still coming out on a rolling basis as they work through applications, and again even so they will not get through nearly all the eventual admits.
Thanks for the post. Iād figured they were finished sending these.
