My advice would be that stats don’t tell the whole story. My child was accepted OOS ED and doesn’t fit the typical stat-driven profile that I’ve seen posted here and in other forums. My child is a strong student, but not top in their class and their school has limited AP offerings so she hasn’t taken any. My child had very high demonstrated interest, and based on W&M’s admissions podcast episodes, that seems to matter more than their CDS indicates. My child also had extracurriculars with a deep and sustained commitment that really tied into their academic interests and demonstrated who they are as a person, and what they could bring to a college community. Stats are great as a baseline measure, but W&M seems to truly care about the whole student. Make sure you listen to their admissions podcast for additional insights directly from the admissions office!

Thank you for your reply! I have heard this about W&M and totally understand the holistic aspect of admissions of many of the more selective schools.
Having read through many of these “class results” mega threads for different colleges on CC, it is standard practice to list the students’ stats, and this is in fact what is asked at the very beginning of each of these types of threads, including this one, so I wanted to encourage the continuation of that tradition for those that are comfortable sharing.
It is actually very helpful for those still going through this process to read these types of threads in order to understand which schools could be a target or reach, and also to witness how unpredictable the process often is in these more selective schools.

I appreciate the perspective and intent, and recognize that is really the point of forums like these. In reading through so many forums, groups, and threads about admissions, my observation is that typically it’s parents of children with “high achieving” students who post stats. Parents of students whose results may not appear as high achieving tend not to share stats. So it can discourage a more diverse applicant pool. Each school’s published Common Data Set has been very helpful in understanding GPA and score distribution for admitted classes. Stats shared on forum threads are anecdotal. I just don’t want parents and prospective students to be discouraged based on a handful of stats posted in any forum or group, so am trying to provide readers with a broader perspective. Thank you for the time you’ve spent on this!

My OOS son was denied. He’s devastated - more than we anticipated, and it’s very painful as a parent to see this - but I’ll share his info in case it’s helpful. We thought his GPA (4.11w, 3.39uw) might be a barrier, and that’s my best guess. He had 34 ACT superscore, 10 APs (he took 5 this semester against our preference, solely in hopes of impressing WM on academic rigor). His ECs, volunteer work and essays were good, consistent with other high achieving applicants, but honestly no standouts that could have overcome that GPA - regrettably, he hasn’t yet cured cancer nor started any foundations targeting the elimination of hunger worldwide. He did demonstrate a deep and enduring interest in the school - guess that also wasn’t enough to knock out that GPA. He would have been happy to get deferred, then waitlisted, and enter through community college or study abroad path to spring admission, but it wasn’t meant to be. Best of luck to RD and deferred applicants and future applicants. It’s a wonderful school, just very sad right now that it won’t be my son’s.

My in state daughter was accepted. 1570 SAT, AP Scholar with Distinction, 4.03/4.46 GPA, attended magnet school. Lots of very good EC’s, hopes to qualify for ISEF this year. She also has overcome some significant physical adversity. HOWEVER, even with her scores she is currently not quite top 10% of her class because of the weird ranking system in our county - the magnet is part-time so those kids are disadvantaged against base school peers who have a totally different curriculum which was one reason she chose to ED. W&M was also her #1 choice after many visits elsewhere and a lot of time spent on campus.

Also wanted to say, hugs to you and your son. I didn’t get in my top choice back in the day but met my future husband at the school where I wound up. But the disappointment is so real and worse before the holiday. This process is so hyper-competitive now I can’t believe it.

Best of your luck to your son. From his limited background you have shared, it seems like he is a hard worker and whichever school is lucky enough to have him, he will thrive and succeed.

That sounds really hard for your son. His hard work and APs this year will definitely pay off eventually - hoping he finds another place he loves. I believe W&M takes a lot of transfer students as well.

Daughter was accepted. OOS 3.9/4.6 1500 with a lot of APs/rigor, good but not outstanding ECs. We live far away and had to fly in for a visit. First try was in Feb - visited a bunch of other DC area schools, but W&M was closed due to snow. We made a second trip and she loved it.

Thanks, all. He has 2 acceptances with merit aid (and 1 with honors college!), and 10 more still to hear from, so he’ll be fine. Just disappointed.

It has gotten so much more competitive. My stats and whole package were inferior to my son’s. I didn’t apply to WM (bc it was my mother’s top choice for me and I was stupidly rebelling), and I got in ED to Swarthmore. That would never happen now with numbers like that. These kids are all so impressive. Congrats again - I’m going to start stalking other boards now.

Hi! I got in ED1 with GPA 3.99 UW/4.44 W, 1420 SAT (680 reading, 740 math). Math/stats major. EC include 4 years of marching band (2 years section leader), 4 years of varsity swim, red cross volunteering, head swim coach of pre-team as ajob, and a couple other swim teams and tutoring/private lessons/babysitting. 8 APs in HS, with all 5s and one 4. A few honor societies including NHS, a few random awards, and ofc letters of rec and answered both optional essays.

Does anyone know if ED applicants who are selected for Monroe get that at the time of acceptance or later in the process? I cannot find transparent info about this. I know of one ED1 who got Monroe with acceptance this year but at least 2 others that got it later in the spring, long after ED acceptance. My DD was accepted ED1 and just wondering whether the merit ship has sailed. Fine either way, I’d just like to be able to file it as closed or pending.
I remember many of the Monroe announcements coming out about a week before RD.
