Windows 7 questions

I now have Windows 7.

Is there a “clear desktop” shortcut anywhere? I am not seeing why shaking a window is any sort of improvement on one click to clear desktop.

Also, Firefox crashes nearly every day, any one else had this issue?

Are you looking for Windows Key + D? Also moving your mouse to the bottom right (next to the time and date) will show you your desktop. Is that what you’re looking for?

If you want the same effect as shaking a window, hit Windows Key + Home

I’m REALLY looking forward to buying the new David Pogue book on Windows 7. So far it’s only available online w/o any discounts.

Three kids- that was it! When I first Googled it I got the instructions for shaking, which does not seem efficient, maybe once I get a mouse, but for now with a touchpad, not so quick at the shaking.

Thank you!

Any one have this Windows 7 problem? Have a new computer, came with Win7 pre-installed. After waking from sleep mode, there is not task bar (just the start button). Emailed both MS and computer manufacturer and received no response.

Sometimes, after a while the task bar will mysteriously return, without rhyme or reason.

My HP Windows 7 computer works beautifully. It hasn’t had any problems.
I haven’t had any problems with Firefox.

On Firefox, which version are you using?
Do you have extensions installed?
Have you tried clearing your cache?
Is there a particular site that it consistently crashes on?

BC- the help button says version 5; I have done any updates. I think that it did install some extensions as I used that Windows 7 easy transfer to move my email Hx and favs etc.

I can try clearing cache and see.

And, I keep about 2-6 windows of Firefox open with multiple tabs on some of them; it seems to crash on various ones, but thus far saves all my tabs.

My firefox crashed when I first started using windows 7. I have been using firefox for nearly 3 years and never had it crash. I use chrome now because it just seems a bit smoother than firefox on Windows 7. Don’t know why.

Most likely mine crashed on CC

So, despite all the hype, Windows 7 is kind of buggy?

Whadda surprise. Who woulda thought?

OK…clue me in. “Shaking”? I have this vision of picking up my laptop and shaking it around. Please tell me I’m wrong! (Vista user here)

Windows 7 is still Windows and has inherited many problems.

I haven’t heard of an issue with Windows 7 and Firefox and I’m using it now but I haven’t looked at problem databases for Firefox in a while. I think that I’d completely deinstall Firefox including any profiles and reinstall.

I’ve used Windows 7 and Firefox from a Vista install and I don’t have crash problems.

It’s possible that there are extensions installed with executables that have incompatibilities with W7.

somemom,

On the bottom right corner of your taskbar, there should be skinny rectangle piece. Click that to clear your desktop.

Don’t worry, it only took me a month to figure that out.

According to all those stupid commercials I see on TV you should be able to figure all this out by yourself. I really really hate those commercials… golly gee I thought my computer should have an on/off switch so what do you know they put one on my computer. I invented Windows7.

A new Windows 7 question for CC tech support:

Typing on Microsoft Office Word 2007, when typing on a page in a 100% view status, all of a sudden the page display size begins shrinking, 100>96>82> etc.

It can be remedied by clicking 100% again a the top or lower right, but why is it doing this at all? How do I stop it? It actually makes you dizzy as it changes sizes in seconds smaller and smaller.

I’m not a tech person. All I know is that my new computer w/ Windows 7 will often not allow me to go any where online while my two d’s and H are sitting on their computers having no trouble.

My DH has noticed this same shrinking view, when APPARENTLY doing nothing to cause it, on websites too!

somemom, I have that problem occasionally too with Windows Vista. I think it might be something with my thumbs hitting the touchpad, but not sure. Some days I’ll have it happen multiple times and other days not at all. I’m not sure what it is…
