Winter 2013 Transfer Thread

@Dreamingowl You and me both lol. I’d like U-M to get back as fast as possible so I can decide (or not decide) between it and UIUC. I’m optimistic that we’ll be getting our decisions sometime next week. It should be exciting. Best thing we can do is to not think about it and concentrate on classes. It will be tough, but we can do it.

@redsdave03: Yea thank you. I feel past , present, and future come crowded in my mind at the same time just like Adele’s song: “Regrets and mistakes and memories are made.” I turned off UNC-Chaple Hill just because I was rejected by my top women college choices and didn’t want to transfer to “back up one” at that time. I wish you best!

@redsdave03 are a freshman transfer?

@Matisyahu. Yes

@Matisyahu: If U-M release result during mid-night, would it keep release result during each day or just some particular time?

@Dreamingowl from what I’ve seen - it is either around 12:00 a.m. or 12:00 p.m.

i got mine at 8am lol, least expecting timing. i got a job interview email at 7am and Umich acceptance email at 8am. What a day for me lol.

I try to keep focusing on my current academic work. It’s so hard. One of the most psych vulnerable times in life.

Are there any more videos youtubes which I can watch during these last waiting days?

I’m debating whether I’m actually going to enroll for next semester or not. Is it possible to just enroll for Spring/Summer '13 semester and take a couple classes then? It’s just that there are a few classes that I want to finish here (bio II, orgo II) that I believe would be far too difficult at Michigan if I’m doing them both at the same time (this is the only year I’m taking two sciences, most likely).

Hey guys!

im a freshman in college right now looking to transfer in as a sophomore, i’ve read up a bit and it seems to me that Michigan favors Junior transfers over Sophomore transfers by quite a bit. Anyways these are my stats so far, i just want to know what my chances are and what i can do to have a better shot at getting in through a transfer

High School GPA: 3.8
ACT: 35
College GPA: 3.7 (so far…)
EC: Member of the pre-med society, biomedical society, and I volunteer at a hospital on the weekends

I actually got in to Michigan when I applied last year, but I got a much better scholarship offer with a smaller college, Oakland University, that was close to my house. Now I feel as though UMich would have been a better choice for me, not that there’s anything wrong with going to a smaller institution, but my dream med school is the U of M med school, and there is a much better chance of me getting in there if I actually go to Michigan.

@devsinghal Hi! I’m a freshman hoping to do pre-med as well. I got into U-M last year but decided to go elsewhere because of money and my original choice in major of architecture. Sounds like we have similar stories lol. I went ahead and applied for the winter semester, but Fall 2013 for soph year is definitely a good idea. I’m not really expecting to get in, since U-M does prefer junior transfers over sophomore transfers over freshman transfers. You never know, though. Strange things can happen. Since you got in a year ago and have outstanding credentials, I think you’d get in no problem.

@Hamzawesome That’s not a bad idea. Bio II and Orgo II at the same time is rough stuff, especially at Michigan. I’m sure you could contact the office of admissions about delaying your admission by a semester.

@albo23 my financial aid materials were received in 10/30…but everything still says 0 :(. Makes me so sad.

Really? I didn’t know that U-M prefers Junior Status Transfer for winter semester. Why? Because they prefer students with more credits?

@Matisyahu: Thanks for the sharing Youtube! :)

I got in! Now I have a decision to make…

@redsdave03: Congratulations!!! Oh I am so happy about you!!! You deserve it! Did you get it just now?

@Dreamingowl Thank you so much! Yeah, I checked five minutes ago and it was up. If you haven’t checked WA already, be sure to check it! You might have gotten your decision as well.

My stats:
32 ACT
5.53 High School GPA
N/A College GPA (I’m a freshman :))
10 pending credits (Dropped my architecture classes)
Involvement in numerous service clubs during high school
Involvement in service clubs during college

Does anyone know when they’ll release decisions on merit-based financial aid?

@redsdave03: Gpa 5.53 ??
