Wolf Hall

Anyone watching this? I think it’s good. I’m rooting for Anne Boleyn to get her head chopped off and I know how it ends.

I already mentioned that I probably watch too much TV but I will watch anything on Masterpiece Theater.

I’ve read both books and loved them. I’ve only seen the first episode, but loved it. The Tudors was fun, but Henry was so badly miscast it took away from the other amazing cast. Cromwell is such a fascinating man because he came from nothing.

Yes, I’m watching and have read both books. My only complaint is their use of authentic natural light. It is very effective but is so dark that my mother stopped watching after the first episode because she just couldn’t see what was going on.

I’ve been watching it, and also watch anything on Masterpiece Theater. I also put on closed captioning when watching it so I don’t miss the dialog.

Mark Rylance is probably the best actor of this decade. And this is one of his best performances ever. I am also really enjoying the production values. STUNNING. The costumes are dead on correct. A real relief after the horrendous “The Tudors”.

I read the books and am watching the series and really enjoying it. Sometimes it moves slow but just watching the nuances of expression and knowing what they reflect is fascinating. The costumes and sets are wonderful. I love the portrayal of Mary Boleyn. The acrtress is having such fun with the part.

I’m enjoying it, although I imagined Cromwell differently. I also agree Henry VIII is miscast. I do miss the extent that we got to know Cromwell in the books - the way he looked at situations, assessed people. Rylance certainly gives the impression of Cromwell being a very thoughtful, measured man – but if I hadn’t read the books, I would feel somewhat lost, and certainly disconnected from the character.

I love the story but just haven’t been able to get into this version. Not sure why. I tried watching two episodes and was just bored. I’m willing to try again. I usually love a slow burn.
