Woman That Stepped Between Dog and Cop About to Shoot Acquitted

Doesn’t sound like a strategy designed to engender community support.

Wow–sounds like the civil suit vs the cop may be interesting! It’s tough being a cop these days, but pretty interesting to read the difference between his testimony and the video.

Part of the problem with being a cop is that they don’t police their own. The good ones stand by quietly and let the bad ones lie and intimidate.
People should be able to trust that police are the good guys.

That dog was cute and friendly.

I remember when there was a horrible mistaken SWAT operation in Maryland where UPS drivers were shipping drugs to random addresses and intercepting the packages before they were delivered. The cops thought the criminals lived at that random address and burst in, guns blazing, and the first thing they did was shoot and kill the owner’s two black Labs who were running away from them! The owner had to sit in his boxers, handcuffed to a kitchen chair and splattered with his dogs’ blood for hours before they even began to figure things out. He was the mayor of a small town nearby. Poor doggies!

Let me guess, the cops still have their jobs?? Why is it that cops can lie, break the law, and still keep their jobs?

A picture says a thousand words, and a video says a thousand pictures.

There was an article in Bloomburg Business week a few weeks ago about how the cost of insuring police departments for malfeasance payouts was skyrocketing. A couple of reasons were presented, but none of them touched on the obvious-when you’ve got proof of bad behavior, the cop’s word against the victim’s word becomes moot.

Good.

I’m hoping the on-body cameras being utilized, and the general ubiquitous nature of filming nowadays, will drive the bad apples out of profession once and for all.

nice to hear at a time when so many ppl think the solution to everything involves killing

One of the dogs that was rescued with my older pups (that we think was probably their dad) was killed by the cops when they raided the wrong house. He was not aggressive and the other police even admitted that he was shot while just wagging his tail.

No one paid for his death. It’s been almost 10 years and it still makes me sick.

I don’t understand how someone can just shoot a dog (of course, if the dog is attacking or a life is at risk that’s different). I guess because I’ve spent so much of my life protecting these animals.

Ugh

I looked up the SWAT incident I referenced above. There’s a Wikipedia entry about it!

Haha, even though they knew about the drugs in the package so killing the dogs had absolutely nothing to do with getting drugs “off the street”!!!

And they did, two days after that statement a woman’s dog was killed when she was being served an eviction notice. You can find details in the Wiki article about Sheriff Michael Jackson.

Sheriff Jackson is no longer sheriff, and he didn’t win the election to become County Executive but he is a representative in the State house in Maryland.
