D2 and I just got back from…shoe shopping! Sadly, the female locusts had descended before we got there. It was one day only, 50% off the reduced price. There wasn’t much left and what was there was scattered all over the place. Man, I don’t know why we shop for shoes so much, or buy so many. Has anyone ever studied this? Men can’t have enough electronics. We can’t have enough shoes.

I love Zappos. They seem to have some of the lowest prices around, plus free shipping, and even return shipping if needed. They also have reviews. (a reason I do almost all my online shopping on Amazon)

Am I the only woman not obsessed with shoes???

I own one pair of sneakers (on their last legs) and a pair of sandals for the summer. I wear a pair of Doc Martens (purchased while I was still in high school) for special occasions and have a few more pairs of dressy shoes for when I absolutely need them.

I have always felt guilty about how much pairs of shoes I own, but today (at a New Year’s party) a friend of mine was telling me that she was just done organizing her shoes over the holiday break. She owns more than a hundred pair!!! Whoa! and I thought I was bad.

Yeah, right–maybe for women. I’ve used Zappos and enjoyed it. Also onlineshoes.com. I wear size 15 and it’s tough finding that size in stores (oddly, wore size 12 when I went in the Navy at age 23; have mysteriously grown 3 full sizes since then).

The show “Sex and the City” seems to have made an entire generation think that zest for shoes = zest for life.

I bought two new pair of Michael Kors a couple of weeks ago, and I have been very pleased with them - so much so that I was certain they are worth what I paid, which was slightly more than, well, my mortage and new car payment combined.

Then, I happened into DSW last week, huge sale, and found three pair of Steve Maddens for $9.00 each. I’m not kidding. $90 shoes - leather high heels - marked down and down and down - like 50% off, then another 50% and then some other sort of discount - until they were $9.00 a pair. I haven’t paid $9.00/pair for business dress shoes in my life. I still cannot believe it. Surely the management at that particular store made some sort of major mistake. Now the Michael Kors doesn’t seem like such a wise decision…
