Women's March On Washington 2017

@CountingDown, love the idea of wearing a sandwich board. You get to put two messages, too!

Shortage of pink yarn – too many nasty women knitting pink hats for the 21st. LOL.

I was excited to learn from FB that more of my friends are also going to the L.A. March.

I’m thinking about this for my sign:

“We Are Here. We are Watching You. We are Prepared to Fight.”

Perhaps 3 signs and we can march in a line. I got the quote from a CNN interview with the organizers.

You can dye offwhite wool pink with Koolaid. Bleached white wool doesn’t dye so well, but natural offwhite wool takes Koolaid perfectly.

I’m going. D & S’s midterms end on the 20th and I’m looking forward to having a break and getting away on my own.

Bit worried about finding my way from the bus station in DC to my friend’s house in Bethesda on 20th evening. Not sure Uber will be an option on inauguration day so am hoping to figure out the metro system.

I’ll be the one in this shirt! >> https://teespring.com/shop/WE-ARE-THE-MAJORITY-SHIRT?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google_shopping&aid=ts-boosted-pla&gclid=Cj0KEQiAqdLDBRDD-b2sv6-i6MsBEiQAkT3wApm-olF3uyTWQx_8DkvTn2Zxlf4QvLF20hqFheAFJAgaAqFD8P8HAQ#pid=11&cid=2489&sid=front

On second thought, maybe an umbrella is something we should bring. Weather may be piss-poor; I hear it may be showering.

^I see what you did there.

@katliamom, how about painting your message on the umbrella? I have to check our weather here, too.

Going back to post #234, the prohibition on backpacks is for “inaugural events” on the Mall. The march the next day should be free of that rule, unless they’ll still be having checkpoints to get onto the Mall.

silver67, if the bus stops at Union Station, get on the Red Line Metro towards Shady Grove. In case they are running local and express lines that night, the express would be to Grosvenor, the local to Shady Grove. Wither one will get you to Bethesda. Depending where you are staying, it may be one of several possible stops.

Here’s the trip planner: https://www.wmata.com/schedules/trip-planner/
If you have problems with it, PM me and I can help you navigate the best way to get there. (I live on the Red Line).

I have two pages of quotes I am considering for my signs. No profanity. Think I may have one aspirational sign and one snarky.

Have seven names to put on my sign so far. Am taking more!

P.S. I am getting links on my local advocacy feeds that there are churches near/along the route that are opening their doors for bathrooms, warming, etc. on the 21st. Will try to gather a list as the day approaches and post them here if that is OK with the mods.

I don’t know…but if I was attending a march, I’d be tempted to make a sign saying, “YES WE CAN”. <3

I’m a student, and I’ll be attending the march in DC. My mom’s friend knitted me a pussy hat, which just arrived! My jacket is, coincidentally, the same shade of pink.

I have an extra bus ticket from midtown Manhattan if anyone’s interested. Leaving 4:45 Saturday returning 10:30pm. DM if interested.

My wife and D will be going in DC (I’m too claustrophobic to deal with the crowds, or I’d go too). A couple of logistical points: This march may be really huge, and it may overtax Metro. Have alternate plans to get out of the city afterwards. The closest Metro station may not be the best bet. You might want to go somewhere and get something to eat before trying to get on Metro. (Restaurants may be full, too, of course.) In terms of bathrooms, best bets are museums and Union Station. (If Union Station is mobbed, you might try the Postal Museum next door–not too well known.) Charge up your phone; you may not be able to see and hear at the rally. At the Stewart/Colbert rally, they had way more people than expected, and there were may people who could not see the Jumbotrons or hear. So you might want to follow news coverage on your phone instead.

Be patient.

Hi all! I’m planning on going to the march in DC on a chartered bus from NYC. Bringing my 15 yo D. I have a lot of questions about logistics. I have no idea where the bus will let us off so I will order metro cards today. But what denomination is best? Do I need one day pass?

I like your post @Hunt It gave me a feeling of what it will really be like. I’m nervous about getting to and from the bus and eating before the long ride home among other things. I want to prepare as much as possible.

We’re excited about being there!

Just throwing this out there not really truly knowing if this is a good option…

When we went to DC this fall we took the MARC train from Baltimore (very near the airport) for $7 into Union Station DC - easy, comfortable, cheap - would this be a reliable option for people outside of the city???

MARC probably has a different schedule for Saturday, since it’s primarily commuter rail. Make sure you check that. If it’s running, it might be a good option.

To expand on what @Hunt wrote: “The closest Metro station may not be the best bet. You might want to go somewhere and get something to eat before trying to get on Metro.”

Take a good hard look at the Metro route map. If you can avoid changing lines and/or boarding your train at a station where lines change, do just that. There will be mobs of people trying to figure out how to get from one line to the other. Walk those few blocks more and get on the train at a place where you will be dealing with a little less chaos. Chances are that that stroll will take you past a few places where you can sit down for a bit and get a bite to eat.

@bridgygo - Depending on where your bus parks, how much walking you are willing to do, how well you know DC, the amount of money you might end up spending on Metro would vary quite a bit. My advice is that you get the one day pass for each of you. You can hop on and off as often as you feel like on that day, and you will never be stuck having to add more money to the cards.
