Women's March On Washington 2017

My sign is getting closer. I got a 2 by 24 mailing tube from Staples and an 18 by 24 inch foam board from Michaels. Cut slits in the sides of the tube and inserted the foam. It seems pretty sturdy yet leightweight. I may reinforce with some duct tape. Still wrestling with slogans. One side will probably be “Science is Real”

i just saw another sign idea: “Hate Does Not Make America Great”

@CountingDown I’m stealing this from another CCer but if it’s not already in your list of quotes: “Resistance is not futile. It is necessary.”

The Guardian has a whole list of stuff regarding what to wear, what to bring/not bring, etc. It’s very useful.

I’m driving south 2.5 hours on Friday to visit my daughter in Champaign, IL. We are going to ignore the inauguration together, making some signs in the process.

On Saturday we are joining up with a sister march at a park in Champaign near UIUC, sponsored by the local Young Dems. We will be there for local speakers, then march to an undercover spot very near campus to see the DC speakers on large screens.

All over the country we will de united.

I just found out a local march is happening in my town. They are late to planning and I don’t know all of the details. I will attend. I’m happy that I will be able to march. I have a surprise birthday party for a good friend Saturday evening that prevented me from going to the LA march.
Never in my life have I felt so compelled to do something.
I’m so happy to see that so many CCers are motivated to make a statement. I am going to not even turn on the TV on Friday.

Not sure if this has already been posted but for those of you going to DC, they have posted the number for a legal hotline to call the day of the rally in case you run into any problems. While they say they do not expect any issues as they have hired security to protect the permitted route - they did release this number to call if you encounter problems:

(202) 670-6866.

Maybe plug it into all of your phones.

We moved to Maine in December and are going to the rally in Augusta.

Will also avoid watching the inauguration.

There is a thing going around facebook telling people to watch QVC instead of the inauguration. You don’t actually have to watch QVC but you can keep your TV tuned to it and go do something else during the day

Why QVC though? Why not just shut off the tv?

I’ll be watching the tennis from Oz.

The idea is that cable companies track what their subscribers are watching. So if a person is watching old movies or QVC instead of the inauguration, that makes the inauguration’s share smaller.

I read that it doesn’t really work that way, though. I can’t find the source of what I read but slopes covers the gist of it: http://www.snopes.com/change-channel-on-inauguration/

MODERATOR’S NOTE: We let this thread run for a long time, but now most of the posts are political, so I am closing it.
