Women's March On Washington 2017

Well romani, it is the reality of the times. If you wear things that are silly for a woman (and you are a man), yeah, you are going to be made fun of. Maybe the guy thinks he is so secure in his identity that he can do anything…he can get away with that at home and with his friends. But in the public eye, he will be mocked, and is that really a thing that you want to do if you would like to be taken seriously?

Not to change the subject, but it reminds me of how some of the guys dress in the gay parades. Over the top, obscene and ridiculous. They have a serious issue that they are attempting to represent, but they choose to dress in a way that reflects upon them poorly. In my opinion, I think they should not do it, they should be serious and demand respect. Don’t be a clown. But I’m not God, who listens to me? Not even my dogs. :o3 :o3

Guys… catching up on this thread is seriously making me consider changing my plans. Ugh…

I don’t know how I can do it, though; we will be up near Point Reyes National Seashore on Saturday - four of us with one rental car. I think we are doing Muir Woods on Friday. Is there any way I could get from that area into SF for the day? Then I could meet up with the other three in my party Saturday afternoon/evening as we plan on staying in SF that night.

My only other option is to cancel out on the trip altogether and march here in Chicago; and H is quite proud of himself that he asked me to join him on this trip - usually he doesn’t tack on extra days of business trips to do something like this. He would not be one to join in the march, though. So I’d be on my own, not that that would stop me as long as I had some help on logistics.

OK, I just looked at the SF information. The march doesn’t even begin until 6PM. I assumed it would be in the middle of the day. I think we were planning on being in SF by evening. However, this makes our trip interesting, as we were planning on doing stuff downtown, and the march might actually interfere with our ability to get around. We have not made hotel reservations yet for Saturday night. We had talked about doing an evening tour of Alcatraz, but I’ve done Alcatraz twice (the couple we’re traveling with have never been there).

Attending the SF march would make your trip memorable. If you’re going to be inconvenienced by it being in your locale, you might as well be in the midst of it.

I keep thinking, this will be my third trip to SF; H’s second (not counting one business trip he had last month where he stayed near the airport) and of the other couple, neither have ever been there for pleasure, and the H only for business a couple of times, so they all could pick something to do while I’m marching. But I’m kind of feeling like I need someone to ‘adopt’ me for the day and tell me where to go/what to do, etc., as I’m not from the area. Their Facebook page isn’t very active.

You are inspiring me…I didn’t realize there were marches all over the country scheduled. I googled and found one in my neck of the woods…

I found a different FB page for SF. I will talk to H about this over the weekend.

You know… I was thinking - about 8 years ago, H, Ds and I went to SF in late August, using credit card points… one of those trips where we thought, “Hey, better do this now; we don’t know how many more vacations we have left together.” (needless to say, in hind sight, that wasn’t something I needed to worry about). Anyway, once we got to SF, H realized the Packers were town playing the 49ers in an exhibition game, so yea, he and Ds decided to get tickets and go. And I stayed at the hotel (I think I wondered down to Fisherman’s Wharf and the farmer’s market for a couple of hours; I had no interest in going to a football game while I was in SF. And they ended up freezing!

So yea, maybe it’s my turn to choose something I want to do in SF that he’s not interested in!

So I am confused. Why aren’t all of the marches in the US beginning at/about the same time?
I realize there is a 3 hour difference but it seems that they could overlap at least.
Boston 11 pm Chicago 12pm San Francisco 1 pm
Much better media that way.
Portland begins at 12 noon. We are walking 3.1 miles.
City permits perhaps?

@oregon101 - the SF event doesn’t start until 4PM (rally); march is at 6PM. Oakland is earlier in the day.

But yea, I get what you’re saying. I suspect it has to do with permits and the ‘other’ march going on that day in cities nationwide.

^Still we meet at noon and march at 12:30 and the is rally after. Seems that we will be finished for the biggest parts by 4.
Fingers crossed for good weather here. Rain will make it difficult for a lot of people.

Seattle’s is at 10 am, I think.

NYC has to stagger the start times for crowd control purpose. Starting point is Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza and it only holds 8000 people. They have so many more than that registered and they have large groups starting to walk at different times of the day beginning at 11:00 a.m. The goal I think is to have one steady stream of people moving uptown for most of the day.

^nice
I hate crowds so my plan is to hang back and bring up the rear.

Going to the march in SF! Wish I could do DC but happy to march locally with some of my middle school students and their families. The one positive about this political climate is that it’s got young people fired up. They know their rights and won’t be silenced

@teriwtt
You can park your rental in Sausalito, tiburon or Larkspur and take a ferry into SF. Larkspur has best parking available. SF has plenty of great mass transit and is very walking friendly (unless you hate hills  )
Join us! SF knows how to put on a protest!

My sister is coming down from New England and we are planning to march. H might be joining us (I hope so!).
D is coming on a bus from NYC, I likely won’t run into her.

Not all the marches are on the 21st either. The one here in Columbus (and I think some other cities) is January 15.

I’m going to DC with my D, and the daughter of a friend from overseas who is studying about 4 hours away. I had a few other people that were joining us, but when a local march was announced, they opted to stay home. We have a hotel room that is at the end of the Metro and closer to where we’re driving from and I have several friends from college who I am going to attempt to meet up with when I am there. However, I have this feeling that may not happen. I’ve been to DC for 4th of July fireworks twice, and the crowd doesn’t scare me. The weather does, though!

I’ll be marching in Eugene, Oregon! It’s not only in state capital cities.

Way to go ladies!
