There’s an overnight bus/motel trip from here through my church, but the cost of going is about $300, which is more than I have to spend comfortably. I would also prefer to give as little attention as possible to the inauguration, which is another negative. I will probably go to the local demonstration in Portland.
I just told H about my plans to hopefully do the march in SF. We got an email tonight from the wife of couple that we are traveling with - she had booked rooms about .3 mile from where the march starts, so it gave me the opportunity to tell H that I was going to try to do the march, and they might want to reconsider where we stay that night, that the area’s going to be really, really congested - I’m guessing roads closed down, etc.
I’ve been thinking about my sign…maybe R.E.S.P.E.C.T. on the front and “Grab our Potential” on the back. Trying to sell See Us. Hear Us. Respect Us. to my daughter because I also like that.
teriwtt, maybe think that this makes it convenient for you to join and they walk the other way to stay out
of the crowd if that is what they need to do. However, make a reservation for dinner immediately.
~Nevermind~
@romanigypsyeyes , this one’s for you. I think you’ll understand because it’s a close-to-home cause that benefits an organization I believe you probably support!
Just ordered one of these for my D2 who plans to march in Columbus. These pins are designed in Ann Arbor and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Planned Parenthood and the ACLU. Check this out, adorable and powerful at the same time:

@abasket thank you for that! I saw it floating around on my facebook earlier and meant to grab the link and see what it was all about… and promptly forgot.
They’re selling them in-person in AA. Guess I know where I’m going before my team meeting next week. I’ll pick some up for my whole research team- belated holiday presents
@TempeMom, I love the RESPECT sign idea. Can I borrow that?
My friends and I are meeting on Friday to talk carpool logistics and make signs. Someone is also going to put together a playlist of songs to march to - RESPECT will be my first suggestion!
@teriwtt if you are at Pt. Reyes on Saturday, you could catch the march in Sonoma Cty. at noon

and yes…if you do not have dinner reservations for Saturday night in SF…DO IT NOW. Besides the marches, it’s also Restaurant week…
I am very sad to be working out of town that week so I can’t go to the SF march…or Restaurant week!
God speed to you all!
How great would it be if some of the celebrities that declined to participate in the Inaugural went to the march in LA or SF instead? I know that America Ferrera is chairing one of the committees relating to the overall effort.
@HarvestMoon1 wouldn’t surprise me in the least. It would be awesome.
I told my D that she could not borrow my car to drive to DC but that she could take a train or a bus if she wanted to attend or that she could attend in NYC.
I am not attending anywhere. I don’t do parades or marches.
Oh wow–just saw this thread. I’d been going to join a bus from Jersey, but just had knee surgery and I don’t think I can do it. May be able to swing Trenton or NYC depending on how healing goes.
But THRILLED to see all the participation here!
Love this thread and so thrilled to see so many of you plan to march! Awesome!
We live in DC and were so disgusted by the election results that we bought tickets for the Caribbean for innaguaration weekend. We just couldn’t stomach being here and wanted to get far away! So, I won’t be able to march but wil be there in spirit.
So what is the main purpose of the march?
@project121 - I suggest if you want to know what the main purpose of the march is, to look at one of the many sites that are offering information about it. I expect for each individual, the reason for participating is unique. Because this thread has the potential of veering into political, I’d rather not get into a discussion about purpose, and leave the thread to discussing logistics, etc., as CC is often a great resource for people needing to learn more about that.
A friend is having a pre-march tailgate. Can’t wait!
