I think the handball call against Japan was correct.
Paris is experiencing a heat wave so we can expect the Friday match against France to be another scorcher. For reference, it’s 94 degrees right now (6:15 pm). I was surprised Jill Ellis didn’t sub in some fresh players earlier in the Spain match. France had to play an overtime match but theirs was later in the evening and they’ve had an extra day off. The US and (for obvious reasons as the host) France have the greatest number of fans in the city so it should be a great match!
Well, I hope Jill Ellis uses Lloyd, Pugh, Press and/or Horan (the NWSL MVP) “early and often.” Rapinoe and a few others (e.g., Sauerbrunn) looked old and tired at the end of the Spain match.
To me, Morgan is like a old finicky 1960’s Ferrari. When they’re running at 100%, they perform like nothing else on the road. When they’re not running at 100%, they need to head to the “pits” for rest and a tune-up.
Are you guys excited for the US match? I am!
1-0 USA so far!
Same starting lineup.
US is favored by oddsmakers, but France is going to be tough to beat at home, IMO.
I have no access to TV and it’s the end of the fiscal quarter but I’m going to go to a bar and bring my laptop and watch the second half. ?
Did anyone see the french team captain step on (spike?) Rapinoe? Was that intentional? If so, that was nasty.
@jym626 No, I didn’t see that. I was too busy looking at college confidential.
@MoonKnight - spit out my coffee!!
One of the french players did one of those dramatic “fall on the ground” trying to get a US penalty that was obviously fake. (and the replay showed it) but Rapinoe was clearly really in pain and the captain of the French team did step (stomp?) on her shin.
Henry totally raked Rapinoe on that play
I’ve been in/out, so I didn’t catch the whole half, but France is winning the possesion game. And so far, at least for the most part, Dunn has withstood the attacks on that left side of the US defense, but that French player (starts with a D) has been relentless.
I looked up Renard’s height. 6’2"!
Dunn is going to give me a heart attack. I swear.
Woot woot!!! 2-0!!
Rapinoe is amazing!
My online broadcast is like 30 seconds behind.
That goal was amazing!
3-0 (if the flag isn’t against the US)
Rats…
