One reason that I’m not the manager. I’d play Pugh too.
Press is all alone for a header. Goal. 10’
Nice little sequence with Lavelle at 4’ mark, where Lavelle nutmegs her defender and a nice cross.
Nice sequence from Dahlkemper to Press to Horan for a cross to Morgan for a header. 2-1 at about the 30-31’ mark.
The stadium just sang Happy Birthday to Alex Morgan. We’re right behind her family!
Rapinoe is out with a hamstring injury. Isn’t hurting us so far.
That was a pretty good game. Have to say the second half dragged a bit.
Alex Morgan’s tea sipping celebration after her goal was not appreciated by the British fans. If I remember correctly, she was fouled (twice?) during the game.
At least twice. Millie Bright got called for two fouls, two yellow cards and red card for beating Morgan up. Hand to the face and a spikes up tackle. I’m wondering if those were purposeful due to the “tea sipping” celebration.
So my main receptionist husband works for the Women’s Soccer association. She has not seen him since early May and was watching the game yesterday on her cell phone (I let her since she’s into it and I am a great boss ? and didn’t interfere with her work), she saw her husband on the field doing his thing before the game!!!
I think a lot of those celebrations are silly. What’s with the goggles thing Ellen White does? I read that Rapinoe often does that same one. Can’t they just smile and hug?
That’s soccer. The celebration for the very rare and difficult to get goal is part of the game. American football players do it as well.
It looked more like she was taking a hit from a joint to me.
And most of those are even more outlandish. NFL even had to establish rules governing them, IIRC.
I’ve only read a few of these posts but my dad is annoyed I’m not watching the soccer
. Lots of fan support here, I’ll tell him next mention!
Celebration is part of competitive sport. Thank God this isn’t Wimbledon.
I like Alex Morgan. When she’s on, she’s great. However, other than her five goal game, up until yesterday, she hasn’t been very effective and a few commentators have called her invisible. The one thing I don’t like about her is that every time there is a challenge from an opposing player, she goes down and stays down. Many other players hop right up and continue play. I wish she’d stop that. There’s enough of it in the men’s game, we don’t need to see the embellishment in the women’s.
I think of Alex Morgan like a fawn in a forest of older deer with big horns and a pack of coyotes nearby. The coyotes will instinctively attack the weakest member of the deer family. That’s Alex Morgan. Opponents aren’t attacking Rapinoe and Heath in the same way they’re attacking Morgan. She does take a considerable amount of abuse.
As for celebrations, the NFL actually relaxed the rules in the past couple or few years. NBA players do the “goggles” thing too along with a million other types of celebrations. Personally, I like the backflip or even a nice gymnastic floor routine would be cool.
What drives me nuts is that volleyballers who celebrate after every single point in a match. What’s up with that? That’s about 115 celebrations per match per team, if it’s a full 5 sets.
We’re a few rows up from the Dutch bench-four yellow dots in a sea of orange. The Dutch fans are INSANE. They dress up like no fans I’ve ever seen. Sadly, the stadium is 2/3 empty 20 minutes before kickoff. I’m hoping it’s because so many fans are still in line for their near beers. The Swedes are underdogs but I’d love to see them pull off a win. Who is everyone else on this thread cheering for?
I like the color orange better, so I’m rooting for the Dutch. And the Dutch take their soccer more seriously as you’ve noticed.
I don’t have a favorite team today. I was impressed with Sweden vs. Germany teh other day, though.
Have people been going after Alex Morgan more because they knew she’d been injured? Didn’t she hurt her hip or something? I’m clearly not up on all of the latest.
