It’s her knee. She has had an injury “history” with her right knee. She’s had minor surgery on it. And opponents have been trying to be physical with her.
Well that was fairly uneventful. I feel bad for Spain, France and England, drawing the US instead of the Netherlands or Sweden. Woofa!
I’m pro-Netherlands. I was flipping between this game and Gauff’s match (she won!) so haven’t watched carefully, but I’m feeling good about our chances Sunday.
We were doing the same for the first half - watching both tennis and soccer. Fun watching Gauff!
And more soccer tonight!
At this point, maybe we could just flip a coin for the winner.

You spoke too soon.
I think it is fine soccer and a tight match is more fun to watch, IMO.
Story of my life. I went to the bathroom and missed it.
I need more action. The US shouldn’t get to over confident, but holy cow, the US should be a BIG favorite.
I left the room and came back to see a Swedish player being carted off on a stretcher. What happened?
Dutch player headed ball into Swedish player’s face/cheek area. It didn’t look too bad, but they strapped her down pretty good, so maybe a neck injury(?).
Have to respect the accomplishments made by the Netherlands team in such a short time!
Ya, I heard that comment, but I don’t understand it. The Dutch women have been playing a very long time. Maybe they focused too much time and energy on the men’s program. I dunno.
Anyone watching Copa America Chile v Peru?
Not me. I was watching NBA Summer League and now the USMNT.
USMNT off to a great start so far. Much better performance than the Sunday debacle. They should be up 2-0 but that was a fantastic save on the Pulisic free kick.
They’re pulling the teams off the field due to weather.
We’re going to lose the momentum of the first 15 minutes.
After a 90 minute weather delay, USMNT 3-1 over Jamaica and faces Mexico for the Gold Cup final on Sunday. Big day on Sunday!
USMNT looked very good. And while Mexico will be favored to win the gap is closing.
USMNT should be winning over small, island countries. Hard for me to get too excited for them .
As poorly as the USMNT played on Sunday, for some stretches they were dominant against Jamaica yesterday. The level of competition has really improved in North America in the last few years. Mexico had its hands full with Haiti. I think the US will match up well with Mexico since Mexico doesn’t have the speed that Jamaica had.
Just as an FYI and full disclosure, I was at the 1999 World Cup final at the Rose Bowl openly rooting for China with 90,000+ people there. I hope attendance will be at least half of that on Sunday.
While the USMNT should beat teams from small island countries, a lot of the best male athletes in America have many popular and lucrative options for professional sports, such as football, basketball, baseball and hockey. The NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB have big money to lure those who can make it to the top.
One other thing to add. Christian Pulisic is a joy to watch. He’s special. He’s fast and highly skilled. And he’s moving from the Bundesliga to Chelsea. So, he may excite the youth here in America to choose soccer over those other sports.
