I should have had a better 2nd guess with max skill since I knew the best placement of the 3 hit letters and knew what letters were best for the other 2 spots. Instead my 2nd and 3rd guesses were all the most common ones. Wordlebot says 11% of players with my starting word made my 2nd guess, and 41% made the 3rd guess. Both were a larger portion of players than any other word.

This was my best ever Quordle, with the lowest average number of guesses I’ve ever had. My first 2 guesses were 2 general starting words that had no relation to what letters hit. One of those 2 general starting words happened to be the solution to the upper right puzzle.

I decided to go back to trying to figure out the vowels first. Either it’s better to work on consonants, or I just did not have a very good day.

Does anyone know if WordleBot pays attention to whether one is playing in hard mode or not? At least when I’m guessing, I usually play with hard mode rules, but WordleBot likes to use words it knows can’t be the solution to eliminate more possibilities.

Wordlebot gave me 99 skill, but my 2nd guess wasn’t optimal. Among the players using my starting word, only 1 player chose one of the two optimal skill 2nd guess words. My guess was 3rd. I was one of 1192 players that got it down to 3 possible rhyming word solutions after the 2nd guess. Among those 1192, only 16% chose the correct word. I was not one of them. 44% guessed the same incorrect word that I did.

The FAQ at https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/07/upshot/wordle-bot-introduction.html implies that Wordlebot can review games using “hard mode” rules, which has different optimal strategy. I have not tried doing so.
