I’m looking for a school with highly intelligent students who play as hard as they work and are still normal kids. Having greek life is okay by me, but I’m not as into the whole “lets go to the football game” thing. I want to study int’l affairs and would love a very globally/politically knowledgeable student body. I want the kind of kids you can get into a deep conversation with over a game of beer pong, who are very driven but enjoy life. I want a school where I will work hard but not so hard I don’t have time to have a life. Definitely needs to be near/in a city. Thoughts?

GWU/American - Both are great for international affairs, and students get plenty of time to enjoy DC nightlife. Both schools also boast ambitious, global-minded student bodies.

The University of Pennsylvania. Penn is an ivy league school that has a work hard/play hard mentality.

Also, I am Jewish and would like a school with a nice Jewish community. Thanks for the input :)

McGill might be a good option, if you don’t mind Canada.

Macalester or Carleton both fit your criteria, without the Greek life.

I definitely would suggest Claremont McKenna College (CA).

When you say international relations I automatically think: MIDDLEBURY.

Middlebury is incredible but way out in the middle of nowhere, I would go crazy.

Hopkins,

Hopkins I always thought of as kind of nerdy.

You REALLY should look into Rice.

You should look into WashU also.

Emory

No football team whatsoever. Fantastic athletic facilities–all for all of the students… Fabulous academics and great nightlife in a great city.

I second both Claremont McKenna (www.claremont.edu for info about the Claremont Consortium) and Rice.

NYU, Columbia, BU, Emory

All of the suggestions so far are really good. Tufts also comes to mind. It’s not necessarily known for being “work hard, play hard,” but everyone I know who goes there says there’s a nice balance of work and fun.

Vassar might also work, depending on whether or not you think it’s too far from a city (its decently close to NYC with good transportation, but certainly not IN the city). Also Weslyan, if being half and hour from New Haven is clos enough to a city for you.

Brown seems like anouther good option, though Providence is not the biggest city ever.

Also check out Occidental college in LA.

You should definately look at GWU. Its a an urban campus, has amazing international afairs program, a large jewish population, no football team yet still Div 1 sports when you feal like watching. The greek life is limited but there is still a whole townhouse row with Frats and sororities.

Def. not BU for not big into sports. People here are insane for hockey and sports in general. work hard/play hard, that’s for sure.

I’d hardly consider being big into one relatively minor sport as having an overriding sports scene. I’d consider it adding to the uniqueness of JHU.
