Goooooooooooooal!

Ochoa!

Holy cow. Hang on, Mexico!

My Spanish isn’t that great, so if the commentators are saying it I can’t understand it, but it looks to me like the Dutch players are suffering from the heat/humidity more than the Mexicans.

^ Not surprising. I was surprised to see heat rule come into effect. I’ve never seen that in footy.

Equalizer! Another 6+30 minutes…

Or not.

Maybe not… no fair…

Gosh, that was quick!

Gone in 60 seconds…

Can someone tell me if the ref correctly called that penalty that set up the winning penalty kick. It did not look like much of a trip to cause a penalty. I wanted the Dutch to win but I just don’t know about that call.

I agree; seemed like he was already falling. But what do I know?

ESPN commentator said it’s a right call.

Productivity will be reduced in California next week and it will be hard for me to talk to one of my coworkers tomorrow.

Not the commentator I heard. Split decision. Minimal contact, but he sold it.

Two penalties. Only second one was given. Fwiw, the non-given penalty in first half was clear and if called, it should come with a red card for Marquez for hitting the last man in a scoring chance. Also note the poor pass forward from Van Persie. The second one is clear, and only the biased Mexicans or Uruguyans reporters a la Jorge Ramos will call it unjust. Rafa Marquez played like Rafa Marquez. Talented but nasty to the extreme.

In the end, Mexico died with its heroes. Ochoa did not have another miraculous streak of good fortune beyond his block with the … head. On the first goal, he showed why he played for a lackluster team in France and is unemployed. He is a constant liability on every corner. He missed a routine punch out as he retreated to his goal. Marquez gambled one too many times.

The reactions from the Mexico side after the game confirms why it is hard to really like this team. I wish they had won, but the never ending claims of injustice are really old. It is a sport of emotions and frustration, but playing the victims all the time is not what Mexico should do. Herrera just lost all his credit. Coaches should show class in defeat, and not only when winning.

Now, Mexico should do what was just delayed by the crazy game played by the USA in Panama. They now can punt most of this aging generation, and let their very talented younger players take over.

I agree the penalty was a legitimate call. Rafa is an idiot for sticking his leg out.

It looks like Greece is going to win. Classic equalizer!

Campbell…is…exhasted…

Props to Costa Rica. I didn’t think they could hang on.
